"Do we..." I take in a shaky breath, "Do we know it was him for sure?"
Alphys adjusts her glasses and glances up at me from the papers she's looking over; the report on the murder, "Yes... The evidence suggests it was. I'm still trying to figure out what Ferfus is after," She rubs the tense spot between her eyes, then pushes her glasses up, "I really hope I can figure out more when I have another sweep done at Goodridge's Lab."
Undyne sighs, her tone exasperated, "Are there any connections between the murders?"
"Honestly no, but we've noticed that the more recent one was much more violent... And they were alone when it happened. From what I've gathered, this guy was taking the trash out to the dumpster behind the general store and some passerby's heard screaming and found him tearing himself apart... Pretty gruesome stuff," Alphys finished, not stuttering once. I'm so proud of her for overcoming it.
"That's... I don't know what to say about that, " Sans says putting a protective hand against my lower back.
There's a pause and the only sound I can hear is the mechanical whirls and beeps of Alphys' Lab. The hard, blinding florescent lights beating down on the top of my head make me swallow hard. I let my gaze shift and fall on the stacks of papers and files on Alphys' counter.
"We could go back to his house, check out the lab," I suggest, sounding much less afraid than I am.
"Frisk, no. I'm not letting you get put in danger again," Sans' tone is mortified.
"Undyne could come too, we could go together. All we need to do is go to the basement and look around right? How could we mess that up?" I don't know why I'm even suggesting we go back. The thought making my skin clammy.
"What if the same thing happens, what if I can't help you like last time," His jaw is clenched.
"I think it's worth a shot Sans," Undyne interjects before I can say anything, "If we're all together nothing is going to happen to her."
Sans doesn't look ready to back down but he's clearly outnumbered. He sighs, the tension draining from his expression, "I'm just concerned with Frisk's safety."
"I know you are, but we'll be okay. If we stick together I'll be fine," I give him a reassuring smile.

The familiar hallway greets us, a feeling of unease building inside me. I push it down and steady my breathing.
"God this place is so creepy," Undyne says, leading us through the hall, "Let's just hurry up and get to the lab."
I stop suddenly, my eyes wide, teeth clenched. There's a dark crimson stain on the floor, long dried and absorbed into the wood. It's my blood. A hand on my back makes me lose focus and look up. Sans is standing next to me, trying to calm me. He takes one of my hands and I realize the fist I'm making is so tight my knuckles are white. I release and force myself to relax although it isn't very much.
"Over here," Undyne calls, opening a door off to the side.
We follow her down some creaky steps, dim bulbs lighting the stairway. The lab itself wasn't much better, the only area with any real light was above a desk set aside from all the high tech equipment. Several cages filled one corner; they were empty. The same red shade I had seen on the floor upstairs dotted the bottoms. Books are haphazardly stacked on all of the available surfaces; a computer sits on the desk.
"I'll check the computer," I say making my way towards it.
The screen flickers to life, although dim, I can see there isn't even a password. I click on the file explorer. There's thousands of pictures, I click on a random one. It's taken from outside a cage, a small animal is lying dead surrounded by a pool of blood. A piece of tape that has a large "A" scrawled out in bad handwriting is stuck to the cage. Looking at it makes me uncomfortable so I click away deciding instead to read some entries.
I figure Alphys must already have seen all of this until I notice an entry from today. Intrigued I click on it, it reads, "This is agony. I have no one to talk to now that Goodridge is dead. I'm not angry I killed him, he disfigured me, turned me into a monster. Haha. The only way I can vent is by typing it out, irregardless of how hard that may be. I assume this is confidential, that doctor seems to have given up on poking around, I believe I scared Ness enough to make him keep that woman, Frisk I believe, away. Her fears were delightfully complex might I add. I know the only way for me to return to some semblance of normalcy is to go back, back before Goodridge captured me. After I read through all of the doctors files whilst she was away, I've learned there is a way. Frisk has an ability; she can't die. All I have to do is kill her and the timeline will reset. It's so easy. She's my top priority now, if I could just get her away from Ness for... Someone is here."
My heart pounding in my chest, I stand up, knocking the chair back.
"Frisk?" Sans asks, frantic and already next to me.
Tears streaking my face I can't get out the words, I can't breathe.
"Talk to me Frisk, what the Hell happened," He holding me by the arms, searching my face desperately, and then he turns. His eyes scan across the screen quickly. I feel him go rigid next to me. I can feel his body temperature rising from where I'm standing. Before I notice her, Undyne is standing next to me, breathing heavier than normal.
"That son of a bitch," She growls, brandishing her spear with a metallic hiss as it slides from her sheath, "I'll kill anyone before they have a chance to hurt you Frisk," She pauses, "But what the Hell is that part about resetting and who's Ness?"
I'm shaking too hard to answer.
"It's complicated Undyne. I'll explain it to you later," Sans says, his words clipped. I can tell he's ready to fight.
"We need to get out of here," Undyne breathes, her demeanor still agitated.
