Walking up the stairs, I grew anxious and excited. Luke was gonna meet my mom which is his dad's new employee and if not Luke can pitch in a good word for her.
Reaching for the door Luke grabbed my hand before I can open it.
"Thanks for letting me come, I would have understand if you said no," I think he's actually sincere but the last couple of hours as been pretty weird for me and Luke.
"I'm glad you're here," I smiled brightly. I quickly exhaled out before opening the door. The house looked the same but the windows were open and it was so much brighter.
In the corner of the living room, a tall woman stood there, with long brown hair wearing a red silk dress and black heels as high as my bed. Aunt Jen, my favorite person in the world. Aunt Jen turned around and the look on her faced showed she was happy to see me but there was something she wasn't telling me.
"Miranda!" Aunt Jen screams, sprinting towards me even in her high heels. She pulls me in to a huge hug which I gladly accept.
"How are you and Gabriel doing?" I ask, her face sparked up.
"Very, very well. How's your new house, do you like it," she smiles walking around the kitchen with her arms out. Aunt Jen was only 31 but my mother is 36, both still really young. I can't imagine my mom having another baby tho, she said she can barley handle me. My aunt however would love to have kids but she found out just recently that she couldn't, her and her boyfriend decided that they would want to adopt then.
"Yeah, it's not bad," I turn around to Luke smiling like crazy, probably because I talk to my aunt like she's my best friend, which she practically is. "This is a friend of mine, his name is Luke. Luke, this is my Aunt Jen, Aunt Jen Luke,"
"Very nice to meet you ma'am, I've heard lovely things about you," Luke said all calmly and professionally.
"Very nice to meet you, have you lived in New York for long?" Asked Jen, her hair moved with her with every motion she made.
"All my life, but we would occasionally go to my fathers beach house and winter cabins," Luke said with such grace.
" Might I ask what does your father do?"
"He's a publisher, Hemmings publishing is his company," Luke answered. Jen didn't look surprised and smiled.
"Shit, that's ironic," I say, slipping out a cuss word in front of my Aunt.
"Why?"
"Miranda's mother is going to work there. She's an author," just then my mother walks in.
"Congrats Mrs.Day, I'm Luke Hemmings,"
"Oh, my new boss's son. It is very nice to meet you,"
"I think I'll be heading out. Me and your mother needs to go have a girls date," Jen squeals at the end.
Mum gathers her things and gives me a small hug.
"You behave or I'll kick your ass," she whispers in my ear.
"Luke it was very nice to meet you. I'll look forward to see you again," mum gives Luke a small hug and Luke hugs her back.
"Same here, Mrs. Day,"
"Oh please, call me Jean,"
Mum and Aunt Jen left with just me and Luke in a single room.
"What is it you wanted me to help you with?"
"At first it was for you to help me sing and get mash ups right because I can't sing but now we are gonna collect evidence," his cold hearted expression is back. Not full swing like the last couple of times but just as bad.
"Im guessing this has to do with Mackenzie. How do you know I can help?" I ask. I thought I made sure I didn't tell him about me.
He pulls out my notebook out of his bag. I'm frozen from shock.
"Where the- how- Why did you go through my bag!"
"I thought you were writing love poems about me and you," she smiled again and his expression clear off his face but anger still laid there.
"So now I know your a Private Investigator and I need your help. I'll pay 150$ up front and if the job is done correctly I'll give you 400$,"
Shit, I don't need that much money.
"I don't need your money. I'll do it for Madison," he nods his head.
"I wouldn't have asked you if I didn't need your help. Thank you,"
"Where to first?" I ask, figuring he's coming with me.
"First we go to the bowling alley," he answered, heading towards the door.
"Why there?"
"That's where her best friend lets her drink underage,"
"Sounds like you don't need my help,"
"That's not the hard part. The hard part is getting her to talk. Plus I haven't followed her in a long time. Last time I found out she was due to be pregnant but then she had a miscarriage,"
"Why didn't you share that?"
I ask."It was my baby,"
Nice to know he was her baby daddy.
