It had been a while since I'd seen Tyler. We texted every now and then and finally decided when to see a movie. I kept thinking about our half date that was supposed to happen the next night and I was soo excited. After calling my mom, since I hadn't in a while, I put some sweatpants on, a turquoise tank top, put my hair in a messy bun, and walked out the door, barefooted. I got to Rachel's dorm room and knocked on the door politely. I didn't want to just barge in because she liked this boy and who knows how far their relationship has gotten already...if you know what I mean. I was about to knock again when Rachel opened the door. She was still half asleep. "What?" she grumbled. I smiled. "You won't believe what happened," I started. Her eyes already lit up and I told her about our upcoming half date. "OH MY GOSH!!!!" she screamed, after I finished. "I know!" I squealed back. "I'm so happy for you," she continued. "Oh my gosh, what are you going to wear, though?" I shrugged. "It's not a date," I said, "so I'll probably wear something chill and easy." Rachel rolled her eyes. "Nuh-uh honey, not on my watch," she replied. I groaned. "OK, so, what you wanna do is wear something classy but casual," she kept on. "Nice play on words," I interrupted. She ignored me. "Rule number 1: Do not overdo it BUT don't UNDERdo it. Rule number 2: Stella MUST help you choose what to wear, and me with makeup. And finally, Rule number 3: Do NOT try to kiss him or touch him UNLESS he goes first. If you feel threatened, you got Stella and I on speed dial, got it?" I nodded in agreement. "Aye-ye, Captain," I exaggerated. Rachel looked at the time. "Alright, time for you to go, I gotta get ready, bye," she said, pushing me out the door, and slammed it shut. Rachel my Rachel. I walked back to my dorm to get ready to go shopping. I doubted that I had anything suitable for this date. I called Stella for her to go shopping with me. After all of our plans were settled, I got myself ready. I'm going on a not-date tomorrow, I thought to myself. What joy.

I'm real glad I had the courage to ask her on a date. I mean, we weren't dating but I guess it counted. I guess it would be called our first fake date? Whatever. I didn't want to deal with Julian that day so I left him alone. So that he wouldn't come bothering me, I texted him that I was called in for work that day. He didn't say anything back so I assumed he believed me. I had nothing to do so I decided to stop by the movie theater and buy the tickets early. I threw on some jeans and a t-shirt. I grabbed my keys and wallet and headed out.

                                                                     ~~~~~~~~
I was about 5 minutes away from the theater already when a stop light turned red. I glanced at the street name. Glencore. Damn it. This light always took forever. I relaxed a little and looked at the cars beside me. To my right was an older dude, pretty, uh, big, I guess. He had a long beard and was wearing a white undershirt and smoking away. His music was pretty loud but it wasn't too loud to be bothersome. I looked to my left and... what irony. She was siting in the passenger seat, filing her nails. Olive, I mean. She looked so pretty. Her hair was in the cutest messy bun I have ever seen. She was with her one of her friends, who was in the driver's seat dancing to the music while checking herself out in the mirror. Olive turned towards her friend and started talking. I looked back towards the front. I glanced just the tiniest bit towards Olive again. She was looking at me and smiled when our eyes met. I couldn't help but smirk. The light turned green. We waved small waves at each other and took off in different directions. Man, I did good.
Stella was enjoying herself with the music. "For Free" by DJ Khaled was playing. She glanced at me. "Oh my gosh, Oli, don't look now, but your boyfriend is looking at you through his car window," she sang. "Stel, last time I checked I don't have a boyfriend, never have," I replied. Stella rolled her eyes. "Olive, I'm talking about Tyler, dummy." I casually looked out the window and saw him. I could tell that he was pretending not to notice but I know he was looking my way before. He turned and I caught his eye. We both smiled. Thing is, this time it wasn't weird or embarrassing. I felt like I WAS his girlfriend. The light immediately turned green. We waved and went different ways. I really did like this guy. Stella was just smiling at me. "What?" I asked anxiously. "Not your boyfriend, huh?" she said. I rolled my eyes and smiled.
I scanned the movie list for the next day.  There was barely anything that I found good there. I looked at the clerk. "Um, are there any other movies besides whats on this list?" I asked him politely. He thought about it for a minute. His face lit up. "Ah, yes, tomorrow is the second Thursday of the month, which means it will be Throwback Thursday," he explained. He pulled a clipboard out from under the register. "And tomorrow's movie will be... 17 Again," he said. I nodded. I'd heard about that movie from my friends and watched a bunch of trailers so I figured it would be good. I just hoped that she hadn't watched it before. I bought 2 tickets and got a 10% student discount. I got in my truck, Bel Aire, and decided to text Olive.
Guess what movie we're watching??
She texted back after a while.
what?
17 Again...is that ok?
This response took longer to than the first.
Yea! I've never watched that before but I heard it's good. Can't wait!☺
I smiled. At least we would both have a good time.
