While driving to Grand Falls which is in southern Washington, Andy asked why Santiago was so invested in this massacre. She finally told the truth. Santiago was born and raised in this small town and had a sudden clash with her mother and moved to Seattle. She never spoke to her again. Andy begged her to tell him what she argued with her about but she just kept quiet.
When they arrived to the entrance of the town, the 4 lane road was filled with news vans and spectators, making it hard just to even see the city park. Santiago directed the driver of the van to her old family house which was deep in the mountains near an old coal mine. The engine turned off and the surprising blistering heat struck the crew and rushed in to the small cottage. While in the home Santiago looked through old photos of her and her mom against the stairway. She than looked inside her old bedroom noticing how everything was in the same place and way she had placed it when she left. Then all of a sudden they heard a bang downstairs and caught the attention of everyone. It was an old man with a grouched and burrowed face; pointing a shotgun at Oliver.
"Who are you, you twisted nitwit. get out of my house!"
"calm down sir. and what do you mean your house?" Santiago rebuffed.
"I'm the caretaker of this ol'here house. After the misses left, she left me to care for the house and to keep it looking nice until her daughter came back."
"I'm her daughter!"
"Carla?"
"You don't remember me well but I'm your uncle Andrew."
They both shared an troubled look and sat down on the couch and said nothing until the crew left. Over the course of a few hours, they shared stories of each others different lives and their shared relationship with Santiago's mother. But their conversation became serious when Andrew brought up the subject of her mother's death. She began to tear up and ask why the reason for the subject and he responded to why she left. Their was an awkward silence between the two until he went up and left the room to the kitchen. He came back and handed her a black tattered book that resembled a pocket bible. He said to keep it with her at all times and don't trust anyone left in the town. She continued to ask questions but he kept quiet being in an entranced state before leaving to the backyard with his shotgun in hand. She became frantic and ran for him as he prepared to use the gun.
He mumbled something before taking his own life as the bang echoed through the clouded air.
"Their upon us and alive."
