"Are we there yet?" I complained, almost the 3rd time. I almost felt bad for Zachary because he was stuck in a car with me. I’m sorry, but I just HATE road trips! They bring out the bad side of me.
"No, we are not there yet." He said through gritted teeth.
"Ok, ok. Don't need to get so grouchy. Grouchy pants." I told him, smiling in the inside. It was fun getting him irritated. “Can we listen to the radio?” I asked after a few minutes, looking up at Zach's frustrated face.
He nodded and we both reached for the ‘on’ button. Zach’s hand brushed over mine and I felt sparks fly. Energy filled up on the inside of me. Scared and surprised, I pulled away quickly. I looked at my hand as if it could tell me why that had just happened. I slowly found myself craving for Zach’s touch.
I turned to look at him for any explanation, but he had his head tilted and his eyes filled with curiosity as he looked at me. A car from behind us started beeping wildly. We both snapped back to reality and Zach focused his attention back to the car.
Once we took yet another route, I started to speak.
“W-what just happened?” I asked him, looking up at his beautiful face that I was so used to when we were just children. He turned his gaze to me, his blue eyes mesmerizing.
“I have no idea.”
I nodded and turned my fix my eyes on the acres of land we were passing, watching the trees pass by in a blur. Before I knew it, my eyes drooped shut and I fell into a light sleep with the engines purring accompanying my ears.

I snuggled deeper into the leather seat, shivering from the cool air conditioning. My eyes slowly opened and it was morning now. The sun shined through the window, acting like a thin blanket over my body. Once I became aware of my surroundings, I looked around. "Zach?" I called out.
We were in front of a small diner and nobody was in sight. I pushed the car door open and stumbled out as the scorching hot summer air hit my face.
My eyes danced around the place and I found the entrance of the door. I walked towards it and pulled the door open. Zach sat on a bar stool and sipped coffee. The bell attached to the door chimed and Zach's head snapped towards me. Right when our eyes met, I couldn't look away. His dark blue eyes were mesmerizing. They acted like a magnet towards me, pulling me closer and closer.
A lady at a counter coughed to remove us out of our little trance and finally he pulled his eyes away.
I walked towards Zach slowly and he smiled at me. "I didn't want to wake you. I hope you don't mind." He said. My heart fluttered. He was so sweet.
"It's fine." I said, taking a seat next to him.
"Do you want anything to eat?" He asked.
"A coffee is fine." I told him.
He nodded before ordering it. A few minutes later, the waitress dropped off my coffee at the side of our table. Zach slid it over to me, and our hands brushed against each other as he handed the drink over. I pulled back when our skin came in contact, the beautiful and foreign feeling coming back all over again. The cup of coffee spilled all over the floor. I gasped as the warm droplets interacted with my skin.
The waitress came over and picked up the now empty cups off the floor. “I’m so sorry!” I apologized as I tried helping her clean the mess. “Its fine hun. I’ll just go get you another cup.” She smiled warmly at me as she cleaned the last of the mess before heading behind a door.
I took a deep breath before nodding, turning back to Zach.
“Why do you keep doing that?” I hissed at him. Was he trying to play some joke on me?
"I'm not doing anything." He stated calmly.
I glared at him hardly, the waitress breaking my strong gaze towards him while handing me the cup of coffee.
"Sorry for the spill." I apoligized once again. "It's fine, don't worry about it." She responded, smiling sweetly. I returned the smile before turning back to Zach.
"So when are we getting to our destination?" I asked as I sipped my coffee, trying to forget what had happened before.
"We'll be there in an hour if there’s no traffic."
I nodded my head before looking out the window. Everything was so filled with nature, while where my dad and I lived was so polluted and overpopulated.
After we had finished our drinks, we headed back to the car.
We drove in a nice and comfortable silence for a few more minutes before a “Welcome to Springfield” sign came up. “Home sweet home.” Zach sang as he took a smooth turn, his lips tugging into a small smile.
A few minutes later, we fully entered the town. Antiques and stores surrounded us, along with grocery stores, the mall, the library and the post office. A beautiful beach was off to the side when we drove up a few more miles. The glistening ocean waves crashed to the shore, white foam flying everywhere. The salty scent of the fresh beach trickled its way up my nose. My body was aching to feel that warm, white sand against my feet and the cold waves crashing against my body. Zach caught me staring dreamily at the beach. “Want to stop by here for a little?” he asked, pulling me out of my trance.
I nodded my head eagerly as Zach looked for a parking spot. Once we found one, I was practically jumping in my seat. Zach chuckled and we both walked towards the beach.
Once we got to the sand, I slipped out of my sandals and ran to the water. I didn’t care if I wasn’t in my bathing suit; these clothes would do. The water merely touched my toes and I looked behind me for Zach. He walked towards me, holding my sandals that I abandoned and was chuckling at my overly excited attitude over the beach. I was about to say something when he got close enough before a huge wave crashed against me. The freezing water chilled me all over and I squealed in response. Once the wave washed back, I hugged myself, shivering.
Zach laughed at my reaction as he handed me my sandals. Our hands once again brushed against each other. We both jumped back instantly.
“Why do I get that feeling every time our hands brush?” I asked grumpily.
“Jenna…” he said slowly, his voice hesitant.
“What?” I asked him, confusion written all over my face.
“I think were…”
“You think were what? Spit it out!”
“I think were… I think were mates.”
