A short knock interrupted me as I was setting down all the nail polish I had. Michelle and Dana would be coming over later. We were going to watch movies and do our nails all day. Zach wasn’t home because he was out with some guys from the football team, Daniel, Ethan and Kyler. Zach became really good friends with Ethan and Kyler, which was really good. I was glad they came to like each other. The person knocked again.
“Who is it?” I called out. “Ray, you’re neighbor!” said a soft voice.
“Just a minute.” I said as I set down the last of my nail polish bottles.
I walked to the door and opened it slowly. A girl with chest nut brown hair and soft red highlights stood there with a plate in her hands. She looked about my age.
“Hi…” I said.
“Hi!” she began.
“My mom, the lady with the poodle, said that we had a new neighbor for a while now so she wanted to welcome you to the town and she made cookies so… yeah. Sorry were late and all, but their molasses cookies.” The girl finished off. She held the plate out for me to take, in which I did.
“Oh, well thank you. That was very nice of your mom. Do you want to come in and have some with me? I can’t eat them by myself.” I said.
“Um… yeah sure, why not.” She responded.
I opened the door for her and she came in. We sat in the living room and I got 2 plates for the both of us. “I’ve never really tried molasses cookies.” I said as I handed the girl her plate.
“There really good, and they taste better than they sound. Molasses just sounds weird.” She said.
I took a bite out of my cookie and it tasted amazing. I think I could even taste a hint of cinnamon.
“These are really good!” I said as I took another bite out of the cookie. “So are you a werewolf or something?” I asked her.
“No, I’m actually a witch. I’m learning all different kinds of spells right now.” She said. “Oh, that’s cool. I’m a werewolf.” I said.
“That’s cool.” She said.
I nodded my head and stared at the floor. “So what’s your name?” I asked, trying to get the conversation going.
“My name’s Ray, you?” she asked.
“Jenna, but people usually call me Jen.” I said. “Oh, then I shall call you Jen.” She said. I smiled. A wave of silence hushed over us. A few minutes later, Ray got up. “I guess I should get going now.” She said.
“Oh, ok. Well tell your mom thanks for the cookies! They were amazing.” I said as I led Ray to the door. “Ok, I will.” She said. Right when I shut the door, my phone started to ring in my pocket. I picked it up, it was Michelle.
“Hey, were downstairs parking the car. What floor do you live on?” she asked.
“The 10th floor.” I told her.
“Ok, see you in a few minutes!” she said. After that, we both hung up and I waited patiently for them to come. When they finally got upstairs, they set their coats down and we started to do each other’s nails.
“Hey, Jen, who was that girl on Friday that was telling you to watch out or something?” Dana asked. I had totally forgotten about that. “I have no idea. I don’t even know who she is.” I said.
“Oh my gosh! I forgot to tell you about this one girl I met at school. She was so full of herself and she was such a diva!” Michelle interrupted.
