[The song above is the song Dalton is singing in this one shot, for anyone who wants to listen while they read.(:]

"You'll be okay, Dalton. Just remember to breathe."

Dalton repeated MacKenzie's words over and over in his head as he walked onto stage, clutching his guitar tightly, heart pounding. He sat down on the chair that was positioned on the center of the platform, hands shaking as he started to pluck the first few notes.

He scanned the crowd near the back, eyes desperately searching for that one person while he began to sing.

"I'm holding on for my dear life to the railing on the roof,"

His voice shook with nerves.

"And the ground below me looks up and says, 'What are you gonna do?'"

Why did he decide to perform this on Idol of all places, where he would be judged for song choice and how well he sang?

"Are you gonna throw it all away, gonna end it all, or not?"

Finally he found MacKenzie's face amongst the other remaining contestants, and felt himself breathe a little bit easier.

"And I'm waiting for the phone to ring to hear your voice again,"

MacKenzie smiled reassuringly.

"Cause you're the only one who can save me from this dark and lonely end."

He blinked rapidly, willing himself to not start crying. Why did he think this was a good idea?

"But it's getting colder by the second surrounded by these forget me nots...and second thoughts."

He looked back down at the floor.

"And I want them to sto-"

His voice cracked.

"Please, stop."

He saw movement at the side of the stage out of the corner of his eye, but he couldn't bring himself to look up.

"Stop."

His bottom lip trembled as he forced himself to keep singing.

"Please stop."

Footsteps to his left.

"Well, the ground is looking softer every second that I wait,"

Just as tears were about to start falling, he felt arms wrap around him tightly, and some people in the crowd aww'd.

"And the rain is stinging on my skin, as tears fall down my face."

MacKenzie. "Breathe, you can do this," the brunette whispered in his ear, then quickly got off the stage, not wanting to distract Dalton further.

"And I hold your picture in my hand so you'll be with me when I go."

Dalton focussed on those words.

"And I recall the moments that led me to this, all of my mistakes."

Just a few more lines until he got to the point in the song he planned to end on.

"I say goodbye to all my memories and lies to my face, 'cause I was hurting on the inside, so I hurt myself on the outside too."

This time the song would have a happy ending.

"But then came you."

He kept his head down, not letting himself look at MacKenzie.

"And you begged me to stop.

Please stop.

Stop.

Please stop..."

He plucked the last few notes, then strummed a quiet chord to end the song.

Loud applause.

MacKenzie smiling at him from the side.

It was a blur as the judges gave their opinions. He needed to get off stage and breathe.

He managed to mumble a "thank you" into the mic before standing and making his way to the dressing rooms, knowing MacKenzie would follow.

As soon as he got there and MacKenzie walked through the door too, he collapsed in the older boy's arms, allowing himself to cry now.

"Shh, it's okay. You did it," MacKenzie murmered. "I'm so proud, and I'm sure everyone else is too."

Dalton nodded, leaning his head on MacKenzie's shoulder.

"And the judges absolutely loved it, Dal," he reassured him,

"I just feel so stupid for getting emotional," Dalton mumbled, wiping his eyes and somehow managing to smudge his eyeliner even more.

"Don't. It's a really meaningful song to you, and I'm sure everyone could see that," he pulled away to look at Dalton. "You are beautiful and amazing and I wish I could tell everyone that you are mine, because a whole lot of people would probably be pretty envious of me. Then again, after gifs of me hugging you onstage make their rounds of the internet, we might have enough people assuming you're mine anyways," MacKenzie laughed, smiling at the shorter of the two.

Dalton smiled back, blushing. "Thank you, 'Kenzie."

MacKenzie leaned down slightly, softly kissing Dalton.

"I love you."

"I love you too."

[HNNG THIS WAS SO CHEESY I'M SORRY. I just wanted to write something that I could incorporate Dalton's song Stop into, and this is what I came up with. I just wanted sad fluff that ended with happy fluff so yunno what I'm actually not gonna apologize. This is my creative outlet and I can write what I want. :)x]
