I was heading back home from the University while listening to some songs on my phone with the use of my earphones when I came across an old looking bookstore.Funny.. I walk by here often and I just came to realize that there was a bookstore here? I thought to myself in confusion as there were only 3 bookstores in this place and I usually drop by there but this is the first time I've seen this.
Curious and intrigued that maybe it was just newly built without me realizing since life in school got pretty hectic.. I made myself inside.
The smell of old books welcomed me along with a small chime sound that the bell made that signalled that someone had came in.
The interior immediately relaxed me. Oh how I love the smell of books.. And such a wonderful place of treasure. I thought to myself again as I let my gaze roam around the said place. There were two couches in a corner with a round table infront of it that had a small flower decoration on top. There were about 4 aisle of bookshelves that led towards the counter. The light coming from the slightly tinted windows gave off a cozy feeling as the sun was setting-this place is technically a sanctuary... Or so that is what i think.
"Good day and Welcome here," a voice interrupted my thoughts and I craned my neck a bit to see that it was an old smiling man wearing a grey sweater and plain trousers paired with brown shoes while holding a tray with a small tea pot and two cups. "Good day to you as well, sir." I greeted back with a smile and small bow. "It's not everyday I see a young fellow like you come by to visit, Feel free to roam around and I hope you find whatever it is that you're looking for." he said and I let out a small laugh as I nodded.
"I ain't really looking for anything specific, but I will surely enjoy whatever I find here," I stated and he nodded in approval as he made his way towards one of the couches by the corner before placing the tday on the table. "The tea is on the house. Reading while drinking tea does help one to relax." he commented before walking to his desk on the counter.
I nodded and gently placed my bag down on the couch upon heading towards it. This seems like a nice place, I told myself and took my blazer off before rolling up my sleeves up to my elbows and heading towards an aisle of books.
I don't know how long I was in that place.. Without me realizing I have been reading at least 3 books already and that was when I realized that it was already dark outside.
I stood up from my comfortable position in sitting on the couch and brought the book I was reading about a historical fantasy novel with me back to the shelf where I found it.
As I placed it back to its original place, the old man who has been there that was accompanying me by playing a relaxing music from a player and ssrving me tea, stood next to me while holding something that seemed like a book.
"Did you enjoy? " he asked, his crinkly eyes sparkling with hope. I grinned at him before nodding." I did, thank you for having me. By the way, before I forget.. How much?" I asked while showing him a curious look. I forgot I haven't asked how much I would be paying.. I mean he did even give me tea and it seemed expensive plus I've been here for quite a while.
"Oh no. Don't worry. You don't need to pay for anything. In fact, you even deserve a gift. So if you may, take this with you." he stated before handing me what he was holding.
A vintage looking note. I blinked at him in confusion. "But.. I mean, I used your facilities and stuffs.."
"Young man, don't be silly. I had this place set up for the people to use freely.. To be able to share the beauty and knowledge that books may provide. And I really appreciate those who really does value literature." he smiled.
I rubbed my nape sheepishly with a hand as i look at the note before smiling and nodding. "well if you insists.. I shall come back again tomorrow then," I grinned.
"Sure thing.. You must go home. Your parents must be looking for you and are worried already." he commented before letting out a chuckle as he glanced at the clock hanging on the wall.
"They're watching over me so I'm sure they aren't. Anyways, thank you. I shall cherish this journal. " i beamed before bowing as i got my bag from the couch as we started heading to the door.
