'Phew, what's that smell, she hollered making a skunk face,'Oh! look who's here, explains the origin of the smell.' and started laughing at her stupid joke.'Tee hee hee', the 2 other girls giggled, maintaining their feminity. Joy said,'Jessica, no one asked you.' It was Jessica Johnson, daughter of the famous business tycoon Frank Johnson with 2 of her sidekicks Ashley and Hayley. 'Learn to dress like a girl, Williams.'

She was wearing a designer VanHeusen top and a blue short skirt ( calling it short would be an understatement). She wore a lot of make up, enough to not identify her real face. Wearing huge pink stilettos, she had put her fake auburn hair into a stylish hairstyle.

'What a bitch' Joy whispered. Sometimes I couldn't understand why Joy cared so much.

'Excuse me if you will, I have to take my regular vitamin pills for smooth skin and good complexion'Sayin this, her eyes fell on Theo. Theo... With a glint of admiration in her eye she said,'And who are you, young man?' Theo smiled and putting his hand over my shoulders he said,'I'm Alex's friend, Theo. Saying this, he held me tighter. A wild surge of hugging him tight and thanking him ran through me. She huffed and twirling her fake hair, said,'Oh, I'd be happy to have you as my friend.'

'No thanks. I don't want, rather I don't need  a friend who'd insult others like this. And I won't stand anybody, who insults Alex like this, not a chance on her birthday.' Saying this, he walked away leaving everyone in the room speechless. That's it. Jessica's face was red with embarrassment and green with envy. Along with her sidekicks, she walked away without another word. 'Seems like you forgot your vitamins!' Joy screamed. Pretending she didn't hear, she kept on walking, rather Sashaying.

I don't know why she hated me so much. I was never really a socializer. I never did anything bad to her. But she was never good to me. Earlier this bothered me a lot, but now I hardly care. 'YOU GO GIRL' Joy high-fived me. Both of us walked out after packing  all our stuff. 'Adventure sports time' I cried excitedly. 'I don't think you can play for a while... The nurse said that the injury might worsen.'

'What the Fuck? This is the worst birthday ever.'

Joy walked away mumbling something which probably was,'Wait for it.'

*****

I went to the locker room with Joy where I changed into shorts and sweats. Joy smiled,' So how is your birthday so far?'

'Shitty.'

' Nevermind. You didn't get your surprise yet'

'If your surprise includes pizza, noodles, I'm all yours.'

'It's better'

Coach did not let me play that day.I sat there sulking. This was the worst birthday ever. First the doggie fiasco, then Jessica Johnson and now the sports class detention. Even then, I really looked forward to the surprise.

Just then Megan, the class redhead came up and said,'Happy birthday, Alex'

'hey, thanks'

'So, any plans?'

'I don't know yet'

'okay see ya.Enjoy'

Enjoy? Yeah right.

Joy and I went to the cafeteria from there. we grabbed our breakfast; orange juice, Bread and omlette and some fruits. On the table across ours was sitting, the heartthrob of every girl in our school, Brooklyn Flinn.

Not mine though. He was a playboy. I think that Joyce too, liked him. We hadn't spoken many times. He was sitting with his squad, Sam Riles and Josh Miller. Josh was Joyce's half brother.

Suddenly, Brooklyn stood up and started walking towards us. I was surprised.'Hey Alex, I heard it's your birthday today. Enjoy little one.' He was a year older than me.

I had to admit he had the most beautiful face ever. Not pretty, not handsome, but beautiful. Deep, green eyes, perfect lips (very kissable), Flawless cheekbone, sharpest ever jawline and that messy hair... he was a like a live TV star. But I never really liked him. Popular and spoilt to the core. By the time I gained my senses, he was busy talking to Joy. They looked really good together. After a few minutes, he said bye bye to Joyce and out of the blue, gave me a peck on my cheek and walked away. I was stunned.

Soon, Mark approached. Holding a jewelry box his hand, he waved at us. 'Hurry up you Dumbfuck', Joy said. She does surprise me sometimes. 'What is in it?' I asked.

'Your surprise.'
