Eat, sleep, repeat.

That was my usual Christmas break routine and three days in, I could say I was right on schedule with a second bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios and a carton of strawberry milk at 2:30 in the afternoon watching another Adam Sandler movie in my bedroom.

My phone started buzzing from my bedside table and I reached for it without tearing my eyes off the screen. I peeked at the screen and found a text from Maki.

With that, I sighed and paused the movie. I put my bowl of cereal on the bedside table and grabbed my laptop. Fifteen minutes later, I was looking at the screen with the signature distressed look from my best friend up close.

"They kept calling me the arrogant disrespectful know-it-all all because I got mad and told them a girl can wear whatever she wants."

I gave her a sympathetic look. "Did you expect anything less?"

"No but it astounds me how it still manages to surprise me."

"I'm sorry you have to go through this," I said, "If it helps, my dad's been extra clingy since Saturday."
