When Mike walked through his front door after school, he immediately knew something was wrong. His dad was sitting at the kitchen table, waiting for him. Mike stood with the door open for a few seconds before he closed it. He had been thinking about walking right out of the house.

"Hi, dad. What's wrong?" He asked, trying to ignore the awful feeling in his stomach. His dad let out a long sigh before standing up.

"Mike, you know the game big game coming up?" his dad asked. Of course he remembered. It was one of the most important games for him.

"What about it?" Mike asked, his nervousness showing in his voice.

"Martin's birthday is that day. You'll have to miss it," the man stated. Miss the game! Mike was furious. This game was important to his position on his team.

"Leave me here, then," Mike suggested through clenched teeth.

"Martin would miss you," his dad responded. All of a sudden, He couldn't handle it anymore. Mike threw his backpack across the room. It was open, so his books flew everywhere.

"No, dad! I can't miss this game!" He screamed. After he calmed down, he regretted everything that had just happened. "Sorry, dad." he mumbled. His father glared at him before he stalked out of the room.
