Lianna's POV
It's been two weeks since I ran away with Eric. My life has virtually turned upside down in only a matter of days. What I thought I would achieve by coming here, is lost to me now. I know nothing of who or what I am. I have accomplished nothing. All I know is that more trouble is up ahead for me.
Eric has been constantly busy, leaving me to wallow in my own self pity. He has also been distant which worries me because his moods aren't exactly predictable. He could come in any moment, raging.I look down at my clean unblemished hands and immediately start crying.
This was a mistake.
I chose Amity for a reason because in my heart I always knew that I could prosper there without any worry. Dauntless was always an after thought of what could have been. Eric coming there only complicated things. I saw something that I thought I wanted but did not need.
If only he knew what I was thinking. He would not be happy.
A low knock comes to the front door spooking me from my sorrows. It can't be Eric. He wouldn't knock on his own front door.
Slowly, I make my way over and glance through the peep hole. A familiar figure resides on the other side. I remember seeing him. I remember being told to never speak to him.
Four.
Someone in their right mind would have heeded the warning but me? No. I open the door faster than I have time to think of what I'm doing.
Four. He's tall, dark complected, and lean muscled. His face is kinder than Eric's but he hides behind a Dauntless persona.
"I was hoping you were still here."
I don't react at first but continue to stare. When words finally find me, I begin to stutter.
"Wha- What are you doing here?"
He takes one step closer, inching himself in the doorway.
"I've come to make sure you're okay....and to let you know that your parents have been looking for you." His voice is cool and calm like there is no worry.
My parents? Looking for me? But...why?
"You shouldn't be here, Four."
"Neither should you."
Oh.
He's not just going to go away like I had expected.
"What if Eric sees you?"
Four rolls his shoulders and takes one last step until he's completely in the doorway.
"Where is Eric, Lianna? Do you know?"
He knows something. I can tell by the tone of his voice. He's knows something that isn't good and I'm now a complete fool.
"Come with me and I'll show you just where your boyfriend's been." He spits the boyfriend and it makes me jump back a bit.
Why don't they like each other? Questions for another time I suppose.
I follow quickly behind him, making sure to lock the door before I leave. Four leads me down a dark hallway which I've never seen before. Many turns come before we make it to the final destination.
"Isn't it funny that he brought you all this way just to leave you?"
What?
Four opens the door to a brightly lit room with monitors that I would assume are computers. There's nothing like this in Amity but I remember seeing them at school when we went to Erudite. He motions for me to take a seat next to him at one of the smaller screens. I obey.
"What do you mean, leave me?"
Four watches me for a couple of moments. His eyes linger on mine for just a second too long and I sense something...something I've felt before.
He doesn't answer my question but turns towards the computer and taps a few buttons. An image pops up. A video of some sort and I immediately see Eric. But not just Eric.
He's with her. Bethany. The girl he told me not to worry about. They're sitting somewhere that looks like a cafeteria. His arm is wrapped around her waist just like he has done to me too many times. Her blonde hair falls to one side and leaves her neck exposed. Eric leans down and kisses the clear skin and all feeling leaves my body.
"I hate to be the bearer of bad news here..."
I don't let him finish that sentence.
"I want to go home....Now." I command.
"Lian-"
"Four, take me home." I look at him with penetrating eyes and I'm met with resistance but then Four's eyes soften and I see that he's going to do as I say.
He grabs both my hands and clutches onto them will all his strength. I'm completely captured in this moment. His tone is severe as he speaks his next words.
"If I do this, he will find out. And when he does, he will come looking for you. I'm telling you now, Lianna. Eric will find you. There's no escaping when your his."
