All anyone cared about at Fallon High was how good they were going to look for their selfies and each other. I avoided people like they had the plague. Not that I fit in any way. I never dressed up or gossiped, so unless it was for school, I was alone. Acing my classes was a no brainer, my grades as important as football to my dad. "Hey M, come outside, your playing hookie today!" My brother shouted over the phone. "But Dad..." "He won't find out! I'm supposed to be in school too..." So my brother was waiting for me outside, promising to have me back in time for practice. He drove all the way to our favorite spot in the world. It was a small pond off the main trail in the national park. Our mother would bring us here a lot as kids but after she died, we had to sneak out to come here. Our dad avoided everything she ever did. "I brought food so I'll be right back," Damian says as I sit on the blanket, taking out my sketch book. It was so quiet, except for the occasional animal sound that would interrupt the silence. So when a twig snapped behind me, I was easily startled. "D...?" I call out confused when I don't see anyone. "Sorry doll, I'm not your boyfriend," a totally new voice says making me jump to my feet. He was really tall, even leaning against the tree. I should have been afraid but I really wasn't. There was no heart acceleration, sweaty palms, or even fidgeting as I looked at this stranger. If anything, as I stared into those steely blue eyes, I could see past that cool facade. He looked oddly familiar too. "Take a picture, it'll last longer," he says smirking. "No thanks," I say sitting back down, turning away. "You know its not safe for a girl to be out here alone..." "I'm not alone..." "Oh yeah your boyfriend is doing a swell job keeping you safe. Leaving you out here while his on the phone..." "He's my brother, nimrod, and I meant something more spiritual," I roll my eyes, picking up my pencil again. "Now that explains so much..." I put my pencil back down as he sat down right next to me. "Don't you have some where else to be?" "Nah, I've missed this place so I decided to check it out..." This guy was so weird. "You still smell like roses, M..." Oh god that scared the life out of me! I blinked shocked, looking at him. "What?" He smirked, shaking his head. "Your still such an airhead, M," he says laying back on the blanket. "Who the hell are you?"
