Chapter 6

Darius

I don’t know what the hell just happened but seeing Mariah go toe to toe with that guy was one of the sexiest things I think I have ever seen. I didn’t like the fact that she was even fighting with ol’dude and I definitely didn’t like the fact that that nigga had the audacity to hit her and threaten her. I tried to knock his pussy ass out and then blast him myself but 1 I was being held back by Machai and 2 I just came out of jail, I wasn’t even tryna go back for his punk ass. I tried talking to her after all that shit went down but she pretty much ignored me and went outside. When she came back inside a few minutes later she was with Keysha and Heaven. She said something to both of the girls they nodded their heads and she made her way over to me and sat down in my lap.

“I don’t want you fighting with men no more.” I expressed to her. She looked at me like I was crazy.

“That’s not really up to you now is it?” She responded. I exhaled loudly.

“Do you understand what that was like for me watching another nigga put his hands on you? Machai may sit back and let that shit fly but I don’t play that.” I told her. She got off my lap and sat next to me.

“You and Machai have been tighter than muthafuckin virgins for a long ass time. For you to even think that he didn’t feel some type of way seeing that guy hit me is fuckin stupid. I told him just like Ima bout to tell you. I can handle myself. I don’t need my brother going on rescue missions for me. He knows when to hop in and when to just back away.” I gave her a blank stare.  She just shook her head, got up off the couch and made her way over to her friends.

I don’t understand it and I don’t want to. If I see a man putting his hand on my girl then it’s the end of the road for them. Not that Mariah is my girl…yet.

Mariah

After we left the party and Darius dropped us home. I went to the fridge grabbed a bottle of water and flopped down on the couch. I don’t understand why Darius doesn’t understand what I was explaining to him. It’s whatever though. If he doesn’t understand it now maybe he will later on during life. Or maybe that’s just the naïve little girl in me speaking. He seemed dead set on what he had said.

“What’s on your mind Riah?” Machai asked sitting next to me.

“Just that whole fight that happened tonight. Darius’s stupid ass is talking about how he would never stand by and watch a guy hit me like you did. It’s so annoying when people think I’m some kind of damsel in distress.” I said irritated. I heard my brother chuckle.

“Trust me it takes A LOT of self-restraint to stand back and not do a thing. I would never allow a man to put his hands on you if you didn’t tell me that you could handle it. I respect you as a woman to follow your wishes, but you’re also my sister and I’m supposed to take care of you so when I can’t help you when you’re in a certain situation I feel like I’m letting you down as a big brother. You know what I’m saying?”  I nodded. I did understand where he was coming from. I didn’t know that he felt like he wasn’t living up to his brotherly duties.

“Yea I feel you. It’s just that I don’t always want to have to depend on you for shit yuh know? What if you’re not around and some shit happens? Then what? I gotta learn how to fend for myself. I don’t work as hard as I do for the fuck of it.” I explained to him. I knew he was letting my words sink in.

“And that’s why I respect your decision. I know when you need help and that’s when I will step in but not until then. And as for Darius he will soon understand or maybe he won’t. No one wants to see a man put his hands on a woman.” I sighed heavily. I understand but shit.

“I feel you.” I told him honestly.

“Good. You’re all good though right?” He asked concerned.

“Yea I’m straight. I’m going to bed now. I’m tired.” We both said goodnight as we made our way in the direction of our room. This day just needs to end already.

Sooooo this wasn’t the best of chapters and it was also short, but remember it is still an ongoing book. What isn’t happening now will happen really soon.
