Chapter Five

Liana pov

Gran told me to stay in the car while she bought some pots for her new plants at the florist. Today was a Sunday so no school. My thoughts wandered to pegasus. So mysterious yet so secretive. I wonder what was in his mind now. Gran forced Rinata to cook.

She said it was for her own good. I know Rinata hates cooking but she says she's willing to learn. Her first attempt to cook turns out to be a disaster. Her eggs looked like it has been doused in fire. It was black in colour. Rinata shrugged and threw it in the waste bin.

Gran shook her head. "At this rate, my eggs will all be gone in a second. Girl! Learn it properly and carefully. Girls must be perfect for their husband or they'll dump you." Rinata laughed and threw some butter into the pan. Obviously trying to make some scrambled eggs. "I am not planning to get married. I want to protect the princess and future kingdom from all harm so there's no need to marry." This, of course made gran swore that she would become a matchmaker and find the right person for Rinata. "Hey! Those eggs were 5.99 £ a dozen. If you are just wasting my eggs, I suggest you go to the mountains, pick some wild mushrooms and deep-fry them!"

I choked back a giggle. "Uh, gran. May I ask what is deep-fry?" "Gasoline!" I frowned. "What?" "Oh I mean. Fish doused in oil. You know what I mean!" Gran snatched the pan from Rinata and dumped it in the sink. I shrugged and wriggled my eyebrows at Rinata. She held her hands up and made us some tea. Why is gran so worked up? Had she just went mad? Forcing people to cook? She wasn't like that before. "Hey youngsters! I suggest you both go to cooking class." I frowned. "But gran, cooking isn't my thing." Gran stared at me. Suddenly her eyes glowed red. I could hear a voice in my head. Deep and firm. 'My little child. You've grown into a very powerful lady. You do realise what that means right? It means its time to kill you and feed you to Mora. Oh dearie, it was because of your father that put you into this situation. If he hadn't meddle with us, then you would've been safe in mommy's arms. I tell you girl, you can't stop her from returning. We, the powerful Barrett sisters shall destroy you. You are not strong enough to defeat us. Together we shall rule the vampire kingdom then slowly destroy the city.'

I gasped. "What? Granny!" The red glow in gran's eyes faded and gran fell to the floor with a thud. Rinata ran towarda us. "What had just happen? One moment she was standing there, next she fell. Lets carry her to her bedroom. I think she needs some rest." We both carried her upstairs and laid her on the bed.

"What happened back there? Why didn't I see that part?" I shrugged. "Maybe you hadn't observed it?" Rinata shook her head. "No. I really did not see that. I think I might have been frozen." I frowned. "Frozen in time? It can't be." "It may happen. Tell me the story."

I told Rinata about that weird situation. Rinata nodded thoughtfully. "Hmmm, the Barrett sisters? This name sounds familiar. Mora's twin sister? Never heard about her though." I pouted. "Mora has died so her sister wants to get her revenge? But how can Mora return from the underworld? I don't understand. Who is Mora anyway."

"Mora is the sorceress that wants to take over our kingdom." Rinata explains. I bit my lip. "What did father do?" Rinata shook her head. "Not your father. Your grandfather. He...He once was a powerful king. That time, Mora was a normal girl in the normal village. One day, he- I am sorry. I can't tell you yet." I took her hand. "I am his grandchild! I have every right to know!" Rinata shook her head. "After your father went into a deep sleep, your grandfather told me to vow never to speak of this. You know how I knew it? I eavesdroped on him. That day in the throne room. Not on purpose but by accident. I walked past the room and heard the king's voice. When he found out, he did threatened to kill me but I thought better of it. I suggested a method. I swore to god that I won't tell anybody. Maybe- Maybe later."

I went to my room, heart beating faster than usual. Would that demon stay in gran's body forever? If so, how do we defeat her? I can't let gran die. No I can't. "What's wrong? You look sacred." I took a deep breath and sat in front of pegasus. I told him everything from top to bottom until my throat became sore. I gulped down some water.

Pegasus nodded thoughtfully. "I did heard of the Barrett sisters before. When I was in Aradia, my kingdom, I've studied about them. One of them was Morana the other was Minera. Morana was Mora. There were even pictures of them in the book but sadly, it has been burnt went that sorceress destroyed my kingdom. I did not get to see her face because she wore a mask."

"There has to be a reason why she destroyed your city right?" Pegasus nodded. "Yes but..." "You can't tell me yet. Alright I get the message." "Sorry, Liana."

I shook my head. "Hey it's alright. Look. I'd better check on gran to see if she was alright. I hope that demon won't be there. In her body."

I went to gran's room to check on her. She was talking to Rinata quietly. They stopped talking when they saw me. "Hi we were just chatting about what happened just now." "I just want to know." Gran whispered. "This was the battle that I most fear. That woman wants the whole universe to herself. Have you read the news lately? America was attacked by a rogue winged monster. That was the demon, Minera. She was targeting Egypt next."

I balled my fist. "I want to help those people. I want to stop her." Gran shook her head. "No. You cannot because that will only encourage her to make matters worse. She only wants to test her strength to see if she's powerful enough to go to battle. So wait."

I exhaled. "Alright. I will wait but I just don't want to see you suffer." Rinata smiled at me. "That was great. This was the first time I see you this patient."
