She lays there, motionless, breath caught in her throat, trying to cease the temptation of fidgeting, for fear that she may attract unwanted attention. She looks back again, at the offending piece of paper that dares to present itself before her with its myriad of enigmas.

Perplexed and exhausted, the mere sight of it drains the last remnants of her energy. Sleep begins to take over. The silence present in the atmosphere lulling her to a state of calmness. It would've been so easy for her to give in, to surrender to the serenity.

Suddenly, she jolts awake, as if the nerves in her body had ignited a spark in her. A spark of perseverance. Of determination.

She scours the palace that is her mind, hoping against hope that the vital memories would resurface.

At last, they are found. Her expression shifting from one of anxiety to that of enlightenment as she finally understands. The scribblings which once looked like hieroglyphics transforming into legible numbers and operations.

With the flame inside her rekindled and hope twinkling in her chestnut brown eyes, she picks up her disregarded stationery to finish what she started.

{A/N: This story focuses on the musings of a girl writing her Maths exam. At first, being unable to comprehend anything and faced with the threat of falling asleep. But she doesn't give up. Recollecting her thoughts and focusing on the task at hand, she ultimately manages to pass with flying colours.

P.S. This is actually based on a personal experience.

I hope you guys liked this short piece. I'm planning on doing many more in the future.}
