Jacob and Grace were unaware that Connie was still alive.

Connie sat on the hard concrete floor, her back against the wall. She couldn't stop her teeth chattering and her whole body shivered from the cold.
Her stomach growled with hunger, but she was used to that by now. Every bone was slowly becoming visible through her skin. As every day passed, she only got weaker, her frail body trying desperately to survive on the small amount of food she was allowed.
She was confined in the basement, where she had been for the last three months. The only thing to see was the blank walls that trapped her in the darkness.
She closed her eyes and pulled her knees to her chest.
She wanted this to be over. She couldn't take anymore of the torture.
She focussed all thoughts to Jacob and Grace -the only thing she was holding on for. She thought of Grace's laughter that could brighten anyone's day, her infectious smile, her warm hugs. She couldn't forget the way Jacob used to look at her, the way he made her feel so special, the way he called her 'sweetcheeks', that irritating grin. She missed the sound of Jacob and Grace in fits of laughter, she missed the sight of them playing games together. She missed the simple things: Jacob joining her downstairs in the morning, shortly followed by Grace, breakfast together, ushering them out of the house, dropping Grace off at school. She tried to imagine what they were doing right now without her. She knew Jacob would be taking care of her daughter, it comforted her to know that Grace would be safe.

She was waiting for Jacob to find her, so he could bring her home.
She didn't know how long she had left and with every passing day, any hope she had of being found, was slowly fading away.
