"Good morning you two." Connie announced as she entered the kitchen.

Jacob and Grace looked up from their breakfast, surprised at her unusually enthusiastic entrance this morning.
"Good morning sweetcheeks." Jacob smiled.
"Good morning mum." Grace greeted.

Connie walked over to join them at the table, pulling out one of the chairs, and sat down.
"So, what's the plan for today then?" She asked Jacob with a bright smile.
"Well erm, the usual? I'm at work, Grace has school..." Jacob said with a slight frown, confused at the strange question.
It had been a month now, since Connie had returned home. Although, as of yet, she hadn't ventured much further than the end of the drive, instead she tended to remain in the safety of the house.
Jacob had returned to work now, after taking some time off, so Connie would stay at home while he was on shift and Grace was at school.
With every passing day, more of Connie's former self was beginning to reappear, it was nice to see a smile on her lips and the sound of her laughter in the house.
But the memories of the last five years were only being suppressed further, they were still locked away inside her, refusing to be opened to anyone.
The more time that passed, the more she seemed to shut them away.

"I think it's time I came back to work." she announced confidently a moment later.
Jacob frowned and shook his head. "I didn't think-"
"Jacob, I want to come to the department with you, I want to see it." Connie interrupted "I can't just sit in the house forever. I'm better now, I feel fine, so I just want to get back to normality, and that includes my work. "
Jacob considered her words as he studied her face.
He wasn't sure about this.
It wasn't going to be as simple as striding back into the department and reclaiming her office. She had been away from medicine for five years, she was going to have to slowly build up her hours and readjust to the hospital environment.
He sighed as Connie's face kept its assured expression. He couldn't stop her, if she was sure she wanted to do this, she would probably only drive herself there if he refused to take her.
"Fine, ok. If you're sure that's what you want, sweetcheeks. I guess it would be good to go in for a few hours today and re-familiarise yourself with the department." He smiled, as he pushed out his chair and rose from his seat. "I'm just going to get ready, we're leaving in 20 minutes." He said before turning to walk away.

"I need to ensure my department hasn't been run to the ground." Connie called after him.

Jacob chuckled to himself quietly as he left the room.
Connie couldn't exactly call the ED her department anymore.
She was about to learn that a lot had changed in the five years of her absence
