Hermione came to accompany them to the Great Hall for the gala dinner on Tuesday night. Halfway, Snape stopped to chat with some former colleagues and after introducing his wife to them, asked Hermione to show her around. The Great Hall was exquisitely decorated. There were indeed many people. Only members of the alumni including former and current staff of Hogwarts attended the dinner. Dressed in her long off-shoulder, mermaid-style green lace gown, Meredith was a beauty to behold. There were already some who were trying to flirt with her. She truly felt like Cinderella. The dinner was not as formal as she thought it would be, as everyone was free to sit where they wished. Harry explained they made it so to allow everyone to easily and freely mingle with everyone. A live band was performing as the people in the hall chatted merrily with each other. There was a large dance floor and some young people were dancing to the rock song being performed. Foods and drinks floated freely in the air, and Ron had told her that whatever she felt like eating or drinking, she just had to think about the food or drink and it would fly to her.
At one point, Meredith found herself alone because her three friends were busy supervising the flow of the dinner. Her husband was nowhere to be seen in this great hall too. So, she just stood there at a corner, watching everyone, enjoying the music, a glass of juice in her hand. She was sipping it when she heard someone greeting her.
"What is a lonely beautiful lady like yourself doing alone here in the corner? Came without a date?" the male voice revealed to be from a tall, golden-haired boy who somehow had an arrogant aura about him, said from the back.
"I'm actually waiting for my date," she politely replied with a smile when she turned to face him.
"Which house were you in?" the young man asked again.
"Hmm... Slytherine?" she replied with uncertainty in her voice. He knew about the houses when she stayed up Saturday night with Ron, Hermione and Harry in her living room after they showed her some magic tricks, and decided to just say her husband's former house.
"Were you? Fantastic! I was in Slytherine too," he said. "What do you think of this dinner?"
"I have to say, I'm a bit bored...," she replied and before she could add that she was bored because her husband and her friends were not with her, the boy interrupted.
"I thought I was the only one! Such a pathetic event, isn't it? I feel like the money I donated to the school was such a waste. They could have organized a more formal dinner instead of having a pathetic one like this. And the band playing all Muggle music, how awful! Not to mention the presence of some Muggles here. As if being married to witches and wizards grant them a higher social status."
"You don't seem to like Muggles."
"We Slytherines are not supposed to like them, my lady. Have you forgotten? They are not as worthy as we, the purebloods are."
If there were people Meredith hated so much in this world, it would be arrogant people who thought they were higher and mightier than other human beings occupying the earth.
"I'm a Muggle," she confessed, an unhappy look on her face. The boy seemed shocked.
"Everything alright, darling?" her husband asked behind her.
"Married to a Slytherine, who is worthy of me as I am of him," she told the stunned young man before turning to her husband.
"Professor Snape," the young man nodded to Snape, with a scared tone in his voice, as Meredith slid her arm into her husband's.
"Nice to see you, Malfoy." With that, he led his wife into the crowd.
Minerva was doing her headmistress duty socializing with some benefactors of the school when one of her guests, a man around Snape's age, commented, "Isn't that Severus Snape at the dance floor? Where had he been missing all this while? And who's that lady dancing with him? Lucky Snape if she's his girlfriend."
