Chapter 8
The Man On One Knee
Lily graduated at top of the class, James close to the bottom of the worst. Lily disagreed with his marks. "Your a lot smarter than that..." She kept repeating whenever this subject came up and that always seemed to cheer him up... James blamed his low marks on their last Quidditch game, "A bludger slammed into my head and I almost broke my neck when I caught the snitch. I was so close to the ground I fell off..."
Now, Lily and James lived together, they were not married but they were boyfriend and girlfriend. James had been given an invisibility cloak in 5th grade.
Every full moon Sirius, Remus, Peter (Wormtail) and James would sneak of somewhere and they would not tell Lily where. She guessed it was something to do with Remus Lupin because when it was near full moon they seemed to continuously be checking up on him. Also when they came back he would look scared and dirty... "Are you hurting him?" Lily kept asking.
"No. Do you think he would remain friends with people who hurt him? He's not a doof I know that!"
On the 23rd of March Lily found herself and James sitting in their garden, there newly bought house, in Godrics Hollow, facing them. A beech tree toward over them, casting a ghostly shadow over them.
"Dumbledore wanted us to decide on who our secret keeper is..." Lily sighed, Voldemort, and evil wizard, the worlds worst was after them. They had to hide.
"I believe... After a lot of thinking... Sirius Black." James said looking Lily full in the face.
"He's your best mate James!" Lily replied, "but... I've been thinking one of your friends would be better... Jane and I are to busy for each other. No offence..."
James shrugged.
After a long few seconds they sat in silence.
"Ok. So its decided? Sirius?" James asked, diving his hand into his pocket. It seemed he was looking for something.
"Yup! Done!" Lily sighed, it was a relief to have got that over and done with...
Lily closed her eyes, leaning back in her chair. The smell of sweet roses danced up her nose.
"L-Lily?"
She sat bolt right up. For a second she thought that James had left, but he had just moved in front of her... Of a chair... And he was now... One one knee...
"Lily Evans... Will you make me happier than the sun and sweeter than a butterbeer by marrying me?" James said pulling out a small black box.
Lily smiled, he just had to say something silly when asking to marry her, but she loved him.
"Y-Yes!" She gasped her eyes filling with tears as he opened the box to display a beautiful golden ring with one single diamond on the top.
And feeling more happier than ever she was swept of her feet and carried inside.
