It was seven o'clock by the time Dimitri and I had abandoned the covers of our shared bed and I suddenly felt the cold of not being with him as I always did when he left a room. He had smiled as he pulled the sheets from his body and walked into the bathroom leaving me to stare from behind. I laid comfortably just underneath the silk blue sheets and stared at the slightly grey ceiling. How many times have I looked at this ceiling? Somehow I always found the answers to life's questions here. But it was time to get up now, time to get ready for 'the reunion.'
I dragged myself from the bed, taking the sheets wrapped around me. I looked to the floor in hopes of finding my scattered clothes then decided I would need something a little cleaner to wear outside, maybe a little dressy? For some reason I found myself walking to Dimitri's draws and pulled them open, sometimes I'd accidentally put my shirts in with his. But this time my search was cut off when I felt something underneath one of his shirts. A box. A very small blue box. I pulled it out and held it in the centre of my hand, curiously I opened the box and found myself staring wide eyed at its contents. A ring. Not only a ring but an engagement ring. Beautiful. Not to big because guardians didn't really have jewels but not to small that it wouldn't be noticeable.
Quickly I shut the ring box and put it back in the draw. Dimitri was going to propose. He was going to ask me to marry him. Was I ready? Was he? Of course he was, he's older and probably wants this more than protecting the moroi. Who was I kidding? Protecting moroi was what this man lived for.
Before I could sort through my thoughts I tuned into my surrounding and heard the shower running. No matter what I was thinking or feeling at this moment, there was no way I was giving up and opportunity to have a shower, with Dimitri. So I dropped the sheets around my ankles and headed towards the door that connected to our room.
He was submerged in steam and water. When I opened the door he turned towards me, giving his beautiful smile. The one I loved so much. It was hard to focus on anything when he was here and i loved it. His hand, outstretched, gripped the back of my head and pulled me towards him and our lips met again and again and again. After almost twenty minutes in the shower we finally thought it was time to leave the comfort of the shower and the bedroom and get dressed. Damn.
He dressed in all black, the way guardians normally do but this time it was for him and not Christian, he also added his duster. The man never left without it and when he did he always said he felt naked, of course I made an inappropriate joke about that but he kissed me anyway. After I was framed for Tatia's murder Dimitri and Christian got close and after everything was put to bed, Christian asked Dimitri to be his guardian, and he happily excepted. Another reason people were so cool about our relationship.
His hair was tied back the way he normally had it, stray strands of it leaking from the elastic.
I was dressed in an indigo, knee length dress. It was plain compared to what others wore around here. There were no sleeves and the material was stretchy- just in case I needed to go somewhere in a hurry. Though Dimitri didn't seem to mind.
"You look beautiful Rose." He said lovingly, his hands were on my waist and mine were around his neck.
"Not to bad yourself comrade." I replied mockingly.
He always made a huge deal about me calling him comrade. Something about how it didn't relate to his part of Russia, I didn't pay attention while he was explaining it. I was to busy checking him out. But now he smiled, a term of my affection. He kissed my slightly, oh how I wanted more but that would have to wait, at least until later.
"You ready?" I asked.
"As I'll ever be." He replied.
Dimitri never much liked or ever fit into these sorts of things. Even though it was just Christian, Lissa, Adrain, Sydney, Dimitri and I, he never thought he would ever adapt to the world of 'dress up,' as he liked to call it. It was ok. We didn't do it often and I didn't much mind his distaste of the moroi scene, I'd had enough of it in Russia when looking for stragoi Dimitri.
So as we headed towards the court he held my hand tightly. He was nervous. "Don't worry." I said answering his thoughts, "it's just dinner." I added after a moment. He squeezed my hand tighter then finally let go as we entered through the front doors.
