The forest was always tranquil at night. Thea often snuck out of her home to walk through the forest at night. "If I get caught Gren will surely have my head". The headmistress of golden-eye orphanage was a cruel woman, who never fed any of the children and used all the gold given to her by the council for new dresses and expensive, exotic items. Thea, being the oldest at the orphanage, took it upon herself to feed the younger children as well as cloth them. She raised the children, and protected them at all costs. This usually led to regular beatings from Gren the headmistress and led to sneaking out more. On this particular night, Gren had beaten Thea to the point of passing out and when she awoken, she was lying in a field outside the orphanage inside a fur blanket. Gren had obviously thought she had beaten the 17 year old to death and placed her here. She saw this as her chance to run. And that's exactly what she did.

Thea ran as fast as her legs could take her. She felt the wind rushing through her hair as her legs carried her further and further away from the orphanage. She wasn't sure where she was going to go but she knew it was anywhere but golden-eye. Lost in thought as she ran faster and faster, she didn't notice the the teenage boy running straight for her, looking just as flustered as she did. They ran into each other, both knocking each other off there feet. "Watch where you're going. You nearly went through me for crying out load" exclaimed Thea. The boy looked at her confusingly. "Says you. You were running towards me"replied the boy angrily. "Why were you running?"asked the boy. "I'm not welcome here anymore. I'm running away" said Thea."What about you?" She asked. "The same reason as you. My adopted brother tried to kill me. I've been running ever since," replied the boy, anger flashed in his eyes. "If you want you can stay with me. You don't look like you've eaten recently and I need to hunt soon so you can stay with me until you want to go," offered Thea. "Yeah that sound cool. My names Carac." Thea got a good look at the boy now. He was around the same age as her, tall and strongly built. A long cut ran from the side of his cheek to his nose and bags were under his eyes, showing that he was beaten up and overtired. She smiled to herself, knowing that he was too tired to even try to harm her or steal whatever belongings she had on her."Thea. Nice to meet you." Carac smiled at Thea, looking around the forest they were in. "So do you know your way around this place or are we lost?" joked Carac. Thea laughed slightly at the boys joked, replied "Yeah.Come on there's a cave nearby."

The two teenagers set out for the cave, neither realising that this was the start of a powerful friendship
