"Hey Lisa."

"Hey Olivia."

They talked about how school had gone, and about their assignments as they walked back to Lisa's house.

They finally reached the two story white victorian house at the end of the block with the large oak tree in the front.

"Hey Lisa, check out what I found hidden under a floorboard in my house this morning."

Olivia, proceeded to pull a small wooden box out of her backpack, and open it to find a series of small pieces of paper and a lovely amulet with an amethyst stone in the center, the light of the sun making it glow with life.

"Olivia what is that?"

"I don't know I just found it."

"Let's go to my room and check it out."

They ascended the winding staircase up to a room painted purple with a canopy hanging above a bed with a white comforter. They sat on the bed, pouring out the contents of the box onto the bed. Olivia picked up the amulet. She seemed drawn to it, while Lisa picked through the letters.

"Hey Olivia, check this out. These letters were from someone named Amethyst to someone named Jacqueline."

Dear Jacqueline,

I just can't stand it anymore. I can't keep living like this anymore. I just have to get away. Everyone wants the necklace, I will have to hide it in the house, and then leave. I am sorry.

Love,

Amethyst

"I wonder what she is talking about." Said Olivia.

"She was probably talking about that necklace." Responded Lisa, pointing at the amulet Olivia had strung around her neck. "Maybe you should take it off Olivia, if the letters said that everyone wanted it and it had to be hidden, maybe you shouldn't be wearing it."

"It's fine Lisa. Hey maybe we could have a sleepover tonight and look through the rest of this stuff."

"Yeah, ok."

Olivia went to call her mom, while Lisa rummaged through the rest of the items strewn out onto the bed. She still didn't feel right about the amulet, but she didn't want to disappoint her best friend, so she stayed quiet.

After Olivia returned, they continued to search through the letters, it was getting late, and nothing else seemed to really spark their interest. Eventually Olivia decided it would be best to rest her eyes for a minute, before she knew it, she was falling into a deep, dark, sleep.

"Olivia! Wake up, I found something!" Lisa called, but Olivia did not wake up. The sheet of paper Lisa was holding was found in a secret compartment on the bottom side of the box. It read:

βαθύ ύπνο, this amulet has the powers to send the wearer into a deep sleep, causing them to see special elements in their dreams, including past and future events. Sometimes, it can be hard to impossible to wake up.

Lisa clutched the paper while shaking her friend vigorously, sadly Olivia did not show any signs of consciousness. Olivia was still asleep, and still dreaming.

In Olivia's dream she was in a dark corridor surrounded by stone walls. She had no idea what had happened. Olivia kept closing and opening her eyes, but she just couldn't wake up. This was the first time anything like this had happened to her, and as much as she hated to admit it, she was scared. She continued to wander the halls. It seemed to be a castle-like structure. Suddenly, voices erupted from down the hallway, causing her to dive into a nearby doorway.

After a couple of minutes of trying, Lisa could not get Olivia to wake up, all she could do was sit with her head in her hands, then, she had an idea. Pulling on her black converse and navy sweatshirt, she slipped through the window and into the cool air. Quickening her step Lisa ventured down the street towards the small shop at the end of the block. It was an old antique shop, and everyone said that the owner was some kind of voodoo witch. It was dark, and some of the street lights were out. Luckily the door was open, and she walked into the dark shop, feeling for a light switch.

Olivia had no idea what was going on, or why she couldn't wake up, all she could do was try to come with some sort of plan. Suddenly the door began to open. A young girl with a book in her hand. Rolling under the bed, Olivia held her breath. The last thing she wanted to do was get unnecessary attention. The girl sat on the bed, it didn't seem like she would be leaving anytime soon. Olivia could hear movement above her, and then saw the book she was holding drop to the floor right by where she was. The girl got on her knees and looked under the bed, only to be staring into Olivia's eyes. She gasped and fell back. Olivia scrambled out from under the bed and held her hands up.

"Don't scream, please don't scream." She said.

All the girl managed to do was gasp and point to the amulet she wore around her neck.
