Chapter 6

Valkyrie and Nightwalker walked into Valkyrie's house. Valkyrie lead Nightwalker to the spare room downstairs in her house. "Here's the guest room it's not very big but it's cozy." Said Valkyrie. "Lady Valkyrie it's fine. Now if you don't mind I've had a long day so I will be hitting the hay." Nightwalker said calmly. "Alright then. Good night Nightwalker." Said Valkyrie as she left the room. I can't believe I found the village I've been looking for. I've been looking for Firestorm for a year now. Nightwalker just flopped on to her temporary bed and within minutes she was asleep.

The next morning Nightwalker had woken early so she got up and went upstairs to find an elf cooking breakfast. The elf turned around to see Nightwalker standing there. "Oh. Hello you must be the new guard Lady Valkyrie was telling me about yesterday. I'm Wendy. I work as Lady Valkyrie's Nanny for her two sons." Said Wendy. Wendy had dirty blonde hair and purple eyes. She was wearing a dark green dress with a leaf pattern on it and a brown belt and brown boots. "I didn't know Lady Valkyrie had children. Who's the father?" Asked Nightwalker. "Lady Valkyrie adopted them. She found them injured in a forest when she was traveling to another village." Said Wendy sadly. Lady Valkyrie then cut in to the conversation saying "Good morning Wendy. Oh Nightwalker your up as well. Now why are we not eating breakfast." Not long after Lady Valkyrie came down the stairs two dark brown haired boys came down the stairs. The boys looked about five years old. "Mommy who's that?" Said the boy with the palest of green eyes. The other boy looked exactly the same except his eye were a bright emerald green. "That's Nightwalker. She's going to be a guard here at Firestorm." Said Lady Valkyrie. "And who are you two?" Said Nightwalker in her kindest voice. The one with the pale green eyes stepped forward "My name is Jackson. Nice to meet you." He said as he stretched out his hand for Nightwalker to shake. "It's very nice to meet you Jackson." Nightwalker said as she shook his hand. " And what's your name?" Asked Nightwalker. "My- my name is Grayson." Said the little boy shyly as he hid behind his mother. "Aw aren't you both just so cute." Said Nightwalker. "I hope everyone is hungry because I made pancakes. Said Wendy cheerfully. "Yay! Pancakes!" Yelled the boys at the same time. After breakfast Nightwalker and Lady Valkyrie walked down to the guard tower and started working on the room for Nightwalker. "I'm glad your not one of those lords who just sits on their butt and has their people do everything for them." Said Nightwalker to Lady Valkyrie. "Why is that?" Asked Lady Valkyrie. "It means you care more about your people." Said Nightwalker. After a few hours of working they finally finished working on the room. It had stone walls and mahogany floors. There was a small single bed in the corner and an armor stand in the other corner. There was also a weapons rack above the door. "This looks great." Said Nightwalker admiring her and Lady Valkyrie's work. "Hey Nightwalker have you seen the plaza." Asked Lady Valkyrie.  "I have seen it briefly when Dale was bringing be to different houses. But I didn't get the chance to stop and look around." Said Nightwalker. "How bout I show you around the plaza." Said Lady Valkyrie. "That sounds great." Said Nightwalker cheerfully. Lady Valkyrie and Nightwalker walked to the plaza where their were little stalls and a statue of on a hill you couldn't quite see the statue from the plaza you could just see its outline. Lady Valkyrie walked over to one of the stalls and said "Hello Liam how are you and Dawn?" Questioned Lady Valkyrie. "We're fine thanks for asking. Who's that over there?" Said Liam. "Oh that's Nightwalker she's going to be a guard here at Firestorm." Said Lady Valkyrie with a big grin on her face. "Oh you got an assassin to be a guard." Said Liam. "Yeah hehe." Said Lady Valkyrie rubbing the back of her neck. "I assume your showing her around." Said Liam. "Yeah. I was just going to bring her to the statue now." Said Lady Valkyrie. "Oh well you better be off then. You shouldn't be wasting time talking to me." Said Liam. "Bye Liam tell Dawn I said hi." Said Lady Valkyrie. Lady Valkyrie turned back to Nightwalker who was just standing there listening to Liam and Lady Valkyrie's conversation. "Come on I'll show the statue now." Lady Valkyrie and Nightwalker walked up the hill to find a statue of a woman holding an amulet. As soon as Nightwalker had gotten close enough to see who the statue was she immediately knelt before it. "I'm going to assume you know who this is." Said Lady Valkyrie. "This is a blessed statue of Lady Mairéad the Peace-Bringer." Said Nightwalker still kneeling before statue. "What do you mean by blessed statue?" Asked Lady Valkyrie. "Do you not know of the blessed statues?" Asked Nightwalker. "N-no. I've never heard such a term." Said Lady Valkyrie. "Well I've never actually seen one until now but I've heard about them. To create a blessed statue the creator must be pure of heart and a decedent of Lady Mairéad. But even if you are both of those things it might not happen." Said Nightwalker. "How do you know so much about Lady Mairéad?" Questioned Lady Valkyrie. "When I was a kid I remember Drachen asking my father who was a blacksmith to make chains for whipping his servants. My father refused. A week later Drachen asked again my father still refused. Three days after that Drachen came back with his guards. At the time I was only two years old but I remember it like it was yesterday. But when Drachen came back the third time he ordered his men to slaughter my parents. Drachen had spared me for some reason. About an hour after my parents were slaughtered a man found me crying in my old house. The man had come to warn my parents that Drachen was coming for them. But he was too late. So he took me away. Turns out he was head of an assassins guild and he raised me to be the assassin I am today. Too bad he never got to see me grow past nineteen." Said Nightwalker. "What happened to him when you were nineteen?" Asked Lady Valkyrie. "On my nineteenth birthday he ordered the whole guild to attack me so I ended up killing everyone. Hehe." Said Nightwalker rubbing her neck. "But that still doesn't explain how you know so much about Lady Mairéad." Said Lady Valkyrie. "Sorry I skipped the middle of our story and went straight to the end. When he was raising me everyone in the guild were major supporters of Lady Mairéad. That's how I know so much." Said Nightwalker. "How could assassins be followers of Mairéad?" Asked Lady Valkyrie. "Well we had a rule. If the target was a follower of Mairéad we didn't kill them, we would warn them. Also we would go to one of the churches that supported every second day." Said Nightwalker. "Well we better get you down to see Triston." Said Lady Valkyrie. "Why do I have to see Triston?" Asked Nighwalker. "To see where you are in command." Said Lady Valkyrie. Lady Valkyrie and Nightwalker walked down to the guard training grounds. Lady Valkyrie told Nightwalker what to do and she left to check up on everyone. Nightwalker walked into the training grounds to see Triston, Raven and Drew practicing their skills with training dummies. "Hey guys." Said Nightwalker getting their attention. "Hello Nightwalker. Lady Valkyrie told me you would be coming here today." Said Triston. "Now to see where you are in command you will fight Drew first since he is third in command." Said Triston. "Alright then." Said Nightwalker. Nightwalker took out her katana from the sheath on her back. Drew took two sais from his sides and charged at Nightwalker. Drew jumped into the air and slashed out with both weapons. Nightwalker blocked the first and flipped to dodge the second. Nightwalker then charged at Drew but just before she reached him she jumped over him kicking him the back of the head. Straight after Nightwalker's foot connected with the back of Drew's head he hit the ground hard. Drew turned around to face his opponent. But the first thing he saw was Nightwalker's grey and blue blade at his neck. "Drew has been defeated. The winner is Nightwalker." Came a voice from behind them. Everyone turned to see Lady Valkyrie smiling at them. "Good day Lady Valkyrie." Said Raven. "Raven it's your turn to fight." Said Triston. "Right. You ready to lose? Nightwalker." Said Raven confidently. "I don't know are you?" Said Nighwalker. Raven took his sword out of its sheath. "Wait!" Shouted Lady Valkyrie. Raven and Nighwalker turned and looked at Lady Valkyrie. "Lets make this a little more interesting." Said Lady Valkyrie. "What do you mean?" Asked Raven. "Well how about no weapons." Suggested Lady Valkyrie. "Sounds fun." Said Nightwalker. "Raven do you agree to these terms?" Asked Lady Valkyrie. "No." Said Raven. "Why not?" Asked Lady Valkyrie. "He's just scared that i'll beat him if he doesn't have a weapon." Said Nightwalker. "What. No i'm not scared." Said Raven. "Then fight me without a weapon." Said Nightwalker. "I will." Said Raven. "Great then both of you give Triston you weapons." Said Lady Valkyrie. Nightwalker and Raven walked over to Triston. Raven was first to give up his weapon. Nightwalker was just about to give Triston her katana. "Wait! Triston don't touch the katana." Said Nightwalker. "Why?" Asked Triston. "It will zap you with scarlet lightning." Said Nightwalker. "I think it would be better if you just left it on the ground." Said Triston. Nightwalker put her katana on the ground away from where they were going to fight. "Alright now lets get this thing going." Said Lady Valkyrie. Raven ran at Nightwalker and managed to land a punch on the left hand side of her face. Raven then looked at
his hand and held his fist in pain and said "Jeez. What is your face made of?" But when Raven looked back up. Nightwalker wasn't there. He then looked around to see where she had gone. Suddenly Nightwalker had appeared behind Raven and she tapped him on the shoulder. Raven turned around to see Nightwalker. Before Raven could react Nightwalker punched him in the face knocking him out. "K.O! The winner is Nightwalker!" Shouted Lady Valkyrie. "But Nightwalker used an teleport orb." Said Triston. "No I didn't. I just used my magic to teleport." Said Nightwalker. "Well now your going to have to fight Triston." Said Lady Valkyrie. "No I don't need to fight Triston." Said Nightwalker. "Why not?" Asked Lady Valkyrie. "I had my guard up and he managed pin me to the ground and break my arm." Explained Nightwalker. "Looks like we have a new second in command." Said Triston.
