"I'll see you soon."
"Yeah, of course...."
Troye left without another word
----
The night was quiet, yet Troye's mind seemed like an endless song of noises and thoughts that went on and on. His hands were trembling and his stomach was turning, nerves breaking him down bit by bit. He knew exactly what he wanted to do, but he had no idea how he was gonna do it.
Months. It's been months.
Months since he realized that his feelings for Connor were there and they weren't going to leave. Months since he realized Connor felt the same. Months that they've been trying it out, testing the waters of how their relationship was going to work. Months since he's been telling himself that it wouldn't work since distance was such a dangerous obstacle. He knew how some long distances ended, and Troye wasn't ready for another heartbreak. But suddenly, he didn't care. He knew what was right and he was going to do it. It was his final night and Los Angeles and he wasn't going to leave without doing what he's been planning on doing for so long. He wasn't going to let it happen. So, he got out of bed, locked his doors, and ran. He memorized this address by heart, given the fact that he's been there so much that his Airbnb seemed unused.
Trying hard not to trip over his own feet, Troye kept running faster and faster until a familiar building appeared in front of him. He took a minute to catch his breath and to think about exactly what he was going to say. He entered the building, quickly greeting the obviously sleep-deprived janitor. He vigorously pushed the elevator buttons, anxious to get to Connor's apartment.
The doors dinged open. Troye rushed out and took a sharp turn, his pace quick until he abruptly stopped at Connor's door. He stood there for a solid minute, his breathing uneven and his mind running wild. He thought to himself, contemplating between this and that until it hit him.
He was tired of waiting. He doesn't want to wait anymore. And he's not going to.With one final breath, Troye gave three solid knocks to the door and waited.
And waited.
And waited.Troye stood for several minutes, hope disappearing every second. Troye sighed, and was about to turn away, until the slight creaking of the door made his head snap up. The rectangular frame revealed Connor, hair a mess and eyes beginning to shut again.
"Can I help-" Connor's eyes widened. His heart race picked up, and he stayed quiet.
"Hey," Troye said softly, "can we talk?" Connor shook his head to focus, "Y-yeah sure come in," opening the door wider to let Troye through.
"I don't mean to bother you this la-" "It's fine, yeah," Connor interrupted.
Troye's mouth twitched slightly, but he continued.
"I just, don't think we finished earlier today," he said,"and I know how you don't like to leave things unfinished."
Connor frowned in confusion. "What do you mean?"
"I mean," Troye taking a step closer, "that I'm not leaving this unfinished either. You and I both know what 'this' is."Locking eyes for what seemed like an eternity, Connor shifted his focus down.
"You said it yourself, Troye. Distance is a bitch and it'll just get in the way. I want you to be happy, and if this doesn't make you happy then why would we even try?" Connor held back his frustration. He really did want it to happen, he did.
"The distance won't make me happy," Troye said blankly.
"Then why are you here telling me something I already know! Hell Troye, we've been trying for months and yet nothing was going to work. You kept telling me that you weren't ready for another commitment or that you weren't ready for the unexpected and I waited, Troye. I waited so damn long." Connor said, his shouting startling the both of them.
Troye was taken aback, questioning if this really was the best idea.
However, Troye remained calm. He made it all this way and he wasn't going to let this plan fail. He wasn't the "overly-cheesy-romantic" type, but couldn't stop his next words from falling out of his mouth.
"I'm sorry. Fuck, Connor I'm sorry. I've been an asshole so worried about myself and fuck, I was dumb enough to not think about you. Listen, the distance won't make me happy - it never will. But you will,Connor. Yeah, this whole thing is a bitch but I'm willing to make this work. I don't care if I have to fly across the world to see you because seeing you would be the only thing I care about. It's gonna be hard, but I'm not going to leave here without making sure I do what I've been planning to do the moment I laid eyes on you."Connor kept his head down, but Troye easily saw the small smile appear on his face.
Connor wore his heart on his sleeve, and god was Troye messing with it.He took a step closer and placed a gentle touch underneath Connor's chin and lifted his head up.
"So, do you think we can try this?" he asked, slowly getting lost in the emeralds that have had him mesmerized since he first saw them.
"Yeah. Yeah we can," Connor said.Their lips found each other's. After breaking apart their arms wrapped around the other's body, fitting like two puzzle pieces.
"Stay the night, I'll drop you off tomorrow."
Troye's Airbnb remained unused, and Connor's bed had a new found warmth.
The next morning, the two treated themselves with warm coffees with a new feeling in their hearts, neither one of them being able to pinpoint exactly what that feeling was. They promised to Skype as much as possible, and they made sure to do just that.
Troye boarded the plane, an uneven balance of happiness and sadness within him. He slipped his headphones in and put his head back, a playlist of love songs reminding him of green eyes, and a small smile that stayed for the rest of the flight.
