I stood outside the ice cream parlor nervous, not knowing if this was a good idea or a completely horrible one. Ryan had said he needed space so maybe showing up at his job wouldn't be such a good idea. I took a deep breath and headed back towards my car only to turn around halfway there and walk in. I kept my head down and sat at a table in a far corner, I had the perfect view of him but I hoped he couldn't see me.
He was a good worker, he kept a smile on his face even when a small kid spilled a milkshake on him, and he was polite to every single customer. I smiled lightly as I watched him work and before I knew it 2 hours had gone by. I decided to order something but as I looked down at the menu I couldn't really focus. I had been replaying Jason's plan in my head over and over again, and at 5 months pregnant there was just too much on my mind.
"Oh how far along at you?" A elderly lady asked as I stood ready to leave, it was 5pm and I had a doctors appointment to find out the baby's sex at 6 and the pack ball at 8. I had to get going if I wanted to squeeze a nap in, and it was obvious I didn't have the courage to approach Ryan.
"5 months." I said quietly as I looked down, my baby bump was finally visable but this was the first time a stranger had pointed it out or questioned it. The fact that she did shook me up because I knew how pregnant teenager's were judged and belittled for their pregnancies, and honestly I knew I wouldn't react nicely to strangers talking about me and my unborn baby.
"Do you mind if I..." She smiled indicating she wanted to touch my bump. I chuckled a bit, she seemed nice enough and so far she hadn't commented harshly on my age. I nodded and she touched my belly lightly causing me to giggle as she made a 'oh' face. "Has it started kicking around in there yet?"
"No not yet, hopefully soon." I smiled, the fact that the baby wasn't kicking did concern me quite a bit but the doctor told me to wait it out because everything else in the pregnancy seemed to be going pretty smoothly.
"Oh do you know the sex?" The woman smiled as she moved her hand to the opposite side of my belly, I noticed Ryan looked over and his eyes met mine making my heart race as he jumped over the counter and headed my way. I broke eye contact and shook my head at her knowing it was too late to run.
"Adalaid!" Ryan smiled heading over with a grin.
"Congratulations." The old lady smiled before walking away, I noticed people glancing my way and making me a bit nervous. I grabbed the bottom of my jacket and zipped it feeling alittle ashamed.
"Hey..." I sighed sitting back down as he sat next to me.
"What are you doing here?" He asked, he didn't seem upset, he was still smiling but I could tell he wasn't exactly thrilled to see me either. I took a deep breath and looked down at the table.
"I know you said you needed to breath but you have to know I don't want Eric. I don't care who or what he is, I want you Eric. There's a ball at the pack tonight at 8, of course my family's hosting it. I want you to come with me, I want you to meet my family." I blurted aimlessly. Ryan grabbed my hand in his and curled his fingers around mine making me look up and smile at his sudden gesture.
"I missed you. I honestly did, but Adalaid I need to know you're not gonna leave me for that jerk. I know it's the bond but what happens next time Eric makes a pass at you?" He asked with a sigh looking into my eyes as if trying to see the answer in them.
"It wont Ryan I promise, I have a plan." I admitted, Ryan cocked his head at me confused. "You'll be 18 soon, in a week or so and I think that maybe we should just move away together. It'll be best for the baby and us if Eric is far away, and I know it's alot to hint at plus we're young. But I truly think it'd be best."
