In the Great Hall, Valerie took a seat across from Hermione, who was next to Harry and Ron. Ginny took a seat next to Hermione and began eating.
The schedules handed themselves out to the students as they walked in. Valerie saw Fred and George get hit in the face by their pieces of parchment. George nearly cussed out the piece of paper before Fred could stop him.
Valerie turned her attention back onto her food to keep herself from laughing at them. She shoved a piece of egg into her mouth. "Good morning ladies and gentlemen." The twins said together as the sat down on either side of Valerie.
She internally sighed. Why did they choose to torture her? Why can't they torture Hermione or someone else? "Hello Valerie. Let's see your schedule." Fred snatched it out of her hands before she could even open her mouth to protest."Well, what a coincidence. We've got all classes together." George drawled out with a wicked grin on his lips.
"Rather coincidental, my dear brother." Fred responded to his twin with the similar grin. "Shame we've got potions with the snakes first." He shrugged.
Sure enough, their three schedules were identical and they did have Potions with Slytherin. A scowl grew across her face as she snatched her paper back. "Now that we've got that sorted out, you can leave me alone now." Valerie said in a sugar sweet voice.
"No can do, miss." Fred said with a shake of his head. She saw his flaming red hair dance around as he moved his head. His twinkling blue eyes shone with mischief, unmistakable thirst for a new prank. "We've got business to attend to, if you'll agree." He said.
"What business?" She scoffed at him while picking at her breakfast.
"We need a third for our pranks. Sometimes we have great ideas-" Fred began before his sentence was finished by his brother.
"And they have to be ruled out because we it's impossible to do-" George said cockily.
"With only two." Fred finished. They both have her an identical look of curiosity."Why not ask Lee?" She asked the twins suspiciously.
"He's preoccupied-"
"With ladies." They both said.Valerie rolled her eyes and tried to hide a smile on her face. "Alright. Fine. But on two conditions." She said while holding up two fingers. The twins raised an eyebrows but listened. "Number one-no secrets. If we're a team, then we need to act like one. And number two-If i say "jump", you ask "how high", got it? If I need help, you do anything you can to help me." She stayed firmly. There were some things that Valerie had in mind to discuss with them, including the dream. It would be nice to have some people to confide in.
The twins exchanged looks. "Those are some pretty big conditions." George said warily.
"Yeah, I don't know if we'll be able to fill those shoes." Fred drawled out, playing along with his twin.
"Do you want help or not?" Valerie dead panned."We're in."
"So first things first, we've decided to leave Snape a little gift." George started to explain.
"Hold on, I need to know how your enterprises work first." Valerie interrupted.
"Imagine this as an interview. A test drive." Fred explained. "If you get the job, you'll know everything that we know." He said in a convincing tone.
"It'll be like we all have the same brain." George said simply.
"I hope not, I'm smarter than you two bozos." Valerie grumbled under her breath. The twins didn't seem to hear it."Anyways, so after class, you'll distract Snape and we'll plant some dung bombs in his office. Easy as that." Fred explained to her. They were walking with their books on their way to Potions.
"What am I supposed to say to him? 'Hi, will you please be distracted for a moment so my friends can prank you'?" Valerie snorted at her own joke and she saw the twins roll their eyes at her."No, you dingus. Ask him something about Potions." George said to her.
"Ask him about a specific potion." Fred suggested.
Valerie huffed. "Fine. But if we get detention, I'm ditching you guys." She clarified before taking a seat in the dimly lit potions classroom. The professor, Severus Snape, was a greasy-haired man with all black robes. He was standing at his podium and watching the students waltz in. Laughing and talking died down when they saw Snape standing in front of them.
"Welcome to Sixth Year Potions. There will be no silly incantations or careless wand waving. I expect you should all be aware of that by now, some of you more than others." His cold eyes flickering towards the twins who were goofily grinning. "Except you." Valerie snapped to attention when Snape addressed her.
"And you must be?" He asked in a monotone.
"Valerie Delegar, sir." She as served confidently. Snape's jaw clenched and something that looked like recognition flashed in his eyes that widened at the sight of her.
"Pleasure." He muttered, not taking his eyes off of her. "We will begin on page 416. Open your books." Throughout the lesson, Snape was carefully watching his new pupil, taking notice to her habits. Seeing if his recognition was just a fluke.
"Class is dismissed." He spoke to the group, who began filing out of the classroom. Valerie inhaled deeply and walked up to the professor.
"Professor Snape? Could I ask you a question about a specific potion?" She asked him warily while standing in front of his desk.
"Yes." He said in a nasally voice. He hadn't seemed to notice the twins sneaking into his office.
"Well, the drought of living death, I was wondering if it was ever used in a negative manner. Like if it was ever used to...kill someone." She asked him. This was a risky topic and maybe she sounded stupid but she had read the textbooks and knew all about the Drought of Living Death.
Snape went on to explain what it was used for in his monotone voice. He seemed like he was never in a good mood. Once he had finished talking, the twins had given her a thumbs up from behind Snape's back.
"Great, thank you sir." She said hurriedly while turning to walk out."Miss Delegar," he stopped her. Valerie's heart skipped a beat. She turned to face him. "I do advise you to be wary of who you put your trust in." It was an odd statement to make to a child, much less a student.
"Er, yes. Thank you. I'll do well to remember that." She nearly ran out of the room before he could stop her again. Her heart was beating at the speed of light. She turned the corner and saw the twins grinning like man men. "The bombs should go off any time now." They told her in sync.
"I kind of feel bad for him. He seemed a bit creepy but not evil." Valerie said with a shrug. Then the three of them heard a loud bang followed by another. They all burst out laughing and ran as far away as they could from the Potions classroom. "Valerie," Fred said once they had gotten a good distance away from the room. "Welcome to the team."
