I don't know how long I'm crying for.
I cry big, ugly, gut wrenching cries, until there are no more left inside of me.
Each tear that falls makes my insides feel emptier.
Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.
Despair constricts my chest.
I ache with hunger. My throat is dry.
I close my eyes.
The dim light still flickers.
The room still moves down.
***
Images flicker through my dreams
White tiled floors.
An escalator.
A sign in a window.
I try to read the sign but the words are blurred.
I move closer.
What does it say?
I step towards the window; sure that sign will tell me what I need to know.
It feels like it has all the answers.
As I reach it I catch my reflection in the window.
But it's not me.
It's someone else.
She grins a twisted grin.
She is mouthing something through the glass:
Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.
