HER POV
I stood in front of the mirror in my empty school bathroom and removed my shirt. I noticed a few new bruises on my arms, and a cut on the side of my neck. But what caught my attention was the large reddish-purple mark spread across my stomach. It was so sore that breathing caused it to hurt and despite the fact that I had gotten it a few days ago its color made it seem as though the bruise was brand new. I cringed at the sharp pain I felt as I ran my fingers over the bruise. I felt tears well up in my eyes as I took a closer look at my stomach. It was becoming more difficult for me to avoid those jerks who enjoyed tormenting me and the evidence was clearly shown on my body. After putting myshirt back on, I left the bathroom and rushed to my car. I was almost to the parking lot when when I was shoved to the ground. I quickly tried to get up but the fast movement made me dizzy, causing me to black out.
When I woke, I found herself lying in a hospital bed with Lucas Reed, of all people, sitting next to me. His eyes widened when he noticed me move. He shifted forward in his seat as if he wanted to get a better look at me but I quickly moved away. Lucas opened his mouth to speak but he was inturrupted by a man standing on the other side of my bed. "Ms. Dawson, I am the doctor who checked you. This young man brought you here after finding you unconscious. We didn't find anything wrong with you so as long as you are feeling alright, you are free to go. How are you feeling?"
"Fine, thank you. I'll just call for someone to pick me up."
"No need, I'll just drive you home." Lucas quickly interjected, then thanked the doctor for his help.
Outside the hospital we argued over how I would get home. I didn't need his help. It was his fault I was here and now he wants to drive me home. I eventually gave in after realizing if I didn't then our conversation would never end. I frowned as a victorious smile appeared on his face.
Once in his car, Lucas immediately apologized to me.
"Don't give me that bullshit." I spat without looking at him. "You're not sorry, you're scared because you thought something bad happened to me."
"That's not true! I'm genuinely sorry for what I did."
"WHY?!" I suddenly yelled, I have hated him for years and it felt good to yell at him. "For more than two years you and your friends have been treating me like crap, pushing me around, and you think sorry is gonna make me forgive you? I can't even remember the last time I didn't have bruises on my body because I'm constantly being beat up by people like you."
"I know, and I'm sorry. Now I how badly those things affected you."
"You only just realized it was wrong when you saw me lying unconscious!?"
"Yes! And I feel so bad about it!" I looked away from him and got out of his car. We were finally at my house.
HIS POV
"God, she is stubborn." I said to myself as I watched her way to her doorstep before leaving. To my surprise, I saw my mom on the other side of the doorway. I watched them speak for moment before my mom waved for me to come inside. Sighing, I turned off the engine and slowly walked up to Emma's house. I began to worry a bit when I thought about why my mom was at Emma's house or why I was being called inside. Had Emma told her parents about what happened? Did his mom know about how he treated her at school? My thoughts were interrupted by my mom rushing me.
"This is your son?" I heard someone say while I removed my shoes and coat. When I looked up I was faced with a middle aged woman who resembled Emma. She had the same dark brown hair and dimpled smile and their eyes were the same color but her mother's lacked the shining liveliness that Emma's held. "He's very handsome!" continued Emma's mother as she guided me to the kitchen so he could take a seat.
"I didn't you know you and Emma were friends," began my mom, "why didn't you tell us? You know Kristen and I have been friends for who knows how long." she said referring to Emma's mom.
"We aren't friends." Emma butt in.
"Then why was Lucas giving you a ride home?" They asked.
"I....umm, fainted again today and he saw me unconscious so he took me to the hospital then drove me home." she replied without looking at me. I was surprised she covered for me. Emma seemed so angry in the car, I thought she would love to see me get in trouble for my actions. I know I definitely deserved some punishment.
"Well wasn't that nice of you, Lucas. Kristen, why doesn't Lucas drive Emma to school while you're away? This way you won't have to pay the school for her bus fair."
"What's wrong with my car?" Emma asked.
"I'm leaving for a business trip next week and I'll be gone for three weeks. I'm going to drive because it will be cheaper than flying."
"But we have two cars." continued Emma.
"Yes, but remember we are lending my car to your aunt and uncle while they are in state." her mother replied, not noticing Emma's frustration. "This is a wonderful idea. Now I don't have to contact your school." Emma opened her mouth to argue back but stopped. She sighed and leaned back in her seat, frustration was clearly shown on her face.
Our moms spoke for a little while before we left. While they were speaking I tried to make contact with Emma but she avoided looking at me and eventually excused herself fromt he room. When my mom went to the bathroom right before we left Emma's mom began speaking to me.
"Lucas, Emma doesn't talk about school much but I have a feeling she's not being treated well by other students." I nearly choked on my water when I heard this but she did not seem angry with me like I expected.
"Why uhm, why do you say that?"
"I've seen some bruises but I don't bring them up because she got very upset the first time I did. I know Emma said you two aren't friends but could you do me a favor and watch out for her a bit?" I nodded and that night I promised I wouldn't hurt her again.
