HIS POV
I came out of the locker room and immediately saw Sam and Jake cornering Emma. I quickly made my way to them but stopped realizing I couldn't stop them with out sounding like I was protecting her. From this distance I could hear them arguing.
"So do you feel special being driven around by Luke?" Sam asked as they leaned closer causing her to back into the wall. "You should feel privileged." they continued. That was when I noticed Emma straighten up.
"Why should I feel privileged to be forced to spend time with people like you? You are idiot bastards who have no reason to even be here. After you leave this school you will realize bossing people around will get you nowhere in the real world." she spat at them. At that moment Jake slapped her and violently shoved her into the wall. I rushed over and pulled him off her.
"What are you doing?" Sam grumbled.
"I saw Coach Johnson getting ready to leave. We don't wanna get caught." I said quickly. I sighed in relief after seeing his fist unclench and turn away from Emma but he quickly turned back and shoved her into the wall again. I cringed, hearing her whimper. They walked away leaving Emma and I alone. I reached down to pick up her bag but she quickly grabbed it mumbling that she can take care of herself.
*********
The car ride was once again silent. I turned to look at Emma and saw her shoulders beginning to bruise. "Do your shoulders hurt?" I asked. She mumbled something I didn't hear but I assumed they hurt whether she liked admit it or not. I stopped by the convenient store on the way home and got out. I came back with a box of popsicles.
"You stopped for popsicles?" she asked with her eyebrows raised?
"These are for your bruises.
"You want me to put popsicles on my bruises?"
"There was no ice okay? Just take them and be thankful."
"Okay, thank you."
HER POV
I removed a popsicle and handed it to Lucas then took one out and awkwardly placed it on my shoulder. This was probably one of the strangest things I've done but it was sweet that he thought to help me. I then remembered that he also stopped Sam and Jake from hurting me. "I know it was to benefit you and your friends but thank you for stopping them earlier."
"Coach Johnson wasn't actually coming." he said. He turned to me and smiled but I only starred back at him in shock. "You're home." he spoke again and faced forward. Nodding, I thanked him again then left his car.
When I got inside I was surprised to see my aunt and uncle in my living room. I snuck past them and quickly went up to my room. I placed my melting popsicle on my desk then went into the bathroom. I had to hide my bruises before they saw them. After showering, I caked my face in makeup then went down to greet them but they were gone. Sighing, I grabbed my coat and notebook then went for a walk. I had been very lonely having the house all to myself and I couldn't hang out with Talia because she was always hanginign out with her new boyfriend. I also dance and work at starbucks but I had neither of those to do today. I sat on my usual bench and began to draw again. While drawing I thought of todays events and realized Lucas was helping me. Why? I don't know but I was nice. I decided I would be a bit kinder to him from now on.
