Who do you think you are?

Who do you think I am?

You only love to see me breaking, you only want me 'cause I'm taken.

Harry and Cher.

Harry and Cher.

I laid there, on my bed, numb. I'd skipped the rest of the school day, too stunned to even get up. That same painful memory ran over and over in my head, seeing Cher pressing Harry against that oak tree. Seeing Harry let it happen. Watching it unfold.

I say up, wiping at my damp cheeks and streaky eyes. My heart physically hurt. Here I was, trying to act all pretty and mysterious so Harry could fall for me. I thought he would actually like me.

But who was I kidding? Really, who was I kidding? Harry wasn't interested in a girl who almost pissed herself when skipping school for the first time. He wasn't interested in a girl who'd never picked up one cigarette in her whole life. He wasn't interested in someone like me.

My phone lay beside me on my comforter. Sniffling, I reached over and stabbed at the home button. My screen was blank. No new calls. No new messages.

That was it. I flung my phone further up on my bed, curling up in a ball.

I spent a quiet, miserable weekend in my bedroom, watching reruns of The Vampire Diaries and eating more pints of Ben and Jerry's "Chocolate Devotion" than I could count. The biting winds of Chicago blew softly past my bedroom window, the rain finally quieting to a steady hum. My phone stayed silent for the two days besides a small conversation with my mom.

Harry didn't send me a thing.

Maybe a fucking apology was in order, I thought Sunday evening, turning off the lights and climbing in my bed. If he wasn't interested in me, he should've just...not had have been so touchy-feely. No mixed signals.

I sighed, pulling my blankets up to my nose. I knew I couldn't avoid him - we had this godforsaken project to complete.

I'll talk to him when completely necessary, I decided. That's all.

Monday morning, I drove to school, quickly peeling into a parking space. I noticed Regina and Sam standing in front of the school, talking. I hopped out of my car and hurried towards them. Friends. Exactly what I needed right now.

"Hey, stranger," Sam said with a smirk, leaning over to give me a swift peck on the cheek. "Glad you're here. Maybe Reg can tell you all about what happened Friday at lunch."

Regina brightened, throwing her arms around me.
