"Dude good news, I'm free for a while now let's go do something fun!" I say into my phone.
"What? Why? I thought that government working was a big deal?" She said almost sounding sarcastically.
"As if, I work in the parks department, but governments been shut down a while due to the budget so I'm staying home." I say and fall back into my bed.
"Wait, what about Freddy Spaghetti? That's today right? Let's go work that, they always let us have free food." She says excitedly and I can hear her grabbing her stuff in the background.
"I doubt they're gonna have that, Ben and Chris are going crazy over the budget, I mean all the parks are shut down, do you think they're gonna let us out on a Freddy Spaghetti concert?" I pull my phone away from my ear when I hear a buzzing noise realizing that Leslie is trying to call me.
"Hey I gotta go, Leslie is calling me and it's probably about the concert." I say hang up and answer Leslie's call.
"Davina! Oh thank goodness you picked up!" She said almost as enthusiastically as Chris would. "How would you feel about working the public forum with Ron and I today on the government shut down?" She says and I groan knowing I won't be able to get out of this.
"Okay I'll be there soon, bye Leslie." I say and get ready for my boring day at the forum. I pick up my bag and car keys then drive down to the school auditorium where the forum is being held.
Right when I walk in, Leslie and Ron take their seats on the stage as I run up and join them, Leslie begins to speak as everyone else sits down.
"All I can tell you is that all the parks are closed until further notice." Everyone begins to groan," Look, no one is more upset about this than I am. Not like it's a competition or anything, because of it was, I would but that's neither here nor there, the point is I would win..."
"How long will they be closed?" I women stands up, cutting Leslie off, and rudely asks.
"Could be forever." Ron says smiling a little.
"With the government shut down, who's gonna stop al qaeda?" Another man says as everyone looks at him oddly.
"One thing at a time." Leslie says as she is again cut off.
"School is out in two weeks. What am I going to do with my kids all day, keep them in my house? Where I live?" She asks. People in this town are so stupid.
"Um I don't know what to tell you..."
"What about the kids concert tomorrow at Ramsett park? The Freddy Spaghetti concert?" A women asks as her son sits beside her looking at Leslie hopefully.
"Freddy Spaghetti has been cancelled." At this point everyone has already started getting up and walking out.
"Well I hope you're happy." Leslie says as she looks at Ron.
"I am. I am extremely happy because I don't think we should be wasting taxpayer money." Ron says as he takes a sip of his coffee.
"It's not a waste to provide fun for kids. And I for one do not like having Freddy Spaghettis blood on my hands."
"I believe you mean Freddy Spaghettis sauce." Ron says and laughs at his own joke. I get up and start walking out obviously ready to go back home and sleep, not sure why I needed too come in the first place. Deciding that going home would be a waste, I start driving to Ann's house.
"Hello hello!" I say and walk into her house, not surprised to see Leslie already sitting on the couch listening to Freddy Spaghettis cd.
"Do you think anybody's gonna show up?" Leslie asks me as I sit down on the couch beside her.
"Wait for what?"
"I texted everyone to come too Ann's house too help set up for Freddy Spaghetti." Of course she is still putting on the concert, and we will probably get caught.
"Yeah sure, where are we even gonna put on the concert?"
"The pit of course! Ann's letting us use it and we already have everything on its way, I got sponsors to give us something in return for hanging up their posters in city hall." She says and looks at the front door as Gerry walks in.
"Hello?"
"God bless you Gerry Gergich!" She runs up too the door and hugs him.
"Wow, never thought I'd hear those words from you."
"Hey." April says and walks in the door behind Gerry.
"Aprils here move, Gerry." She says and pushes him out of the way too hug April. "April, I didn't I didn't think you were gonna help."
"I still might not." Leslie starts laughing then turns back to Gerry.
"Gerry, how do you feel about lifting heavy things?"
"Ooh, my doctor just said I should avoid..."
"Being a wuss? Yes I agree, so go out there and get the equipment out of the truck." She pays him on the back then turns back too me and Ann.
"Your here, Ann can you make us some more pancakes."
"Yes Ann we want pancakes." I say and start kicking her off the couch.
"Alright let's get started!" Leslie says as April and I follow her outside too start setting up everything.
I pick up my phone too call Adeline, when I look over and see Leslie yelling at Ron through her phone.
"I don't care if you hate what we do, I love it enough for both of us, we're gonna put on the Freddy Spaghetti concert, today on lot 48, behind Ann's house, at 5:00." She starts off yelling but eventually dials back down too talking, she pauses and waits for Ron's response.
"Watch me, we're gonna do this Ron, with or without you," she pick up a hammer and starts beating on the stage," hammering away." She says and then hangs up.
Obviously this day is not going too go well for anyone.
