It was a usual day at school, filled with nothing less than boredom. I have always been categorized under the term gifted, whatever that means. I don't really see what all the commotion is. Ok, so I get a few A's, what's the big deal? I look over to my right and see Kat sitting in the passenger seat with her nose in a book. Her brown hair is tucked behind her ear as her hand nervously folds and unfolds the corner of the page. "Good book?" I ask, glancing at her hand. She laughs nervously, "Ya, I guess you could say that". As we turn the corner onto Lavender Lane, I see the small colonial style house I know all too well. My family's home is a small, two story, white colonial style house, Virginia's most common style, but nothing like those big historical ones with the columns built in the 1700's, but more quaint and probably built in the early 2000's. I park my red 2003 Toyota Camry in the long driveway next to my mom's 'garden' she has tried so well to maintain. It seems no matter what she does, she can't keep anything with roots alive. As I fiddle with the key, trying to get it to turn the lock, my mother opens the door before I even manage to fit the key in. As she opens the door, the smell of garlic and rosemary fills my senses. "I made your favorite! Spaghetti and garlic bread!" my mom declares before I can even get through the door. "Won't you stay for dinner Kat?". "Oh I'd love to Mrs. Elizabeth, but I better head home, I have a lot of homework to do." Kat answers with a wistful tone to her voice. "Alright then, suit yourself."

After my mom and I do the dishes while listening to horrible 80's music, an old tradition of ours, I climb upstairs to brush my teeth. I am so tired I can hardly lift my hand to squeeze the toothpaste out of the bottle. As I brush my teeth, I stare into the mirror and see my dark blue eyes staring back at me. After brushing my teeth I take off my pants and put on one of my dads oversized t-shirts and crawl into bed. As I'm lying in bed, listening to the soothing sound of the trees rustling in the cool night breeze, my phone lights up. It's Justin. My heart skips a beat as I will my fingers to move across the keyboard.

-Hey, you asleep?
No...
-Want to hang tomorrow?
Sure, where at?
-The Coffee Bar? Right after school?
Sounds good, see you tomorrow :)

I was so happy, a smile stretched across my face so wide it made my cheeks hurt. I turned over on my side and closed me eyes. I couldn't wait for tomorrow to come.
