Chapter 11

The pain at seeing this little boy being born and having a chance at life, when my son never got that chance hurts so much. Melanie comes over and puts an arm around me, "I know that it hurts, but look at it like this, because of Carmen, this is one that does have a chance at life. Think about that and let it give you strength." I hear his small cries as Carmen sets him in his mother's arms. I look at him as she opens the blanket and counts his fingers and toes before closing it back and kissing him on the forehead.

I watch Carmen clean all of them up, including herself when the ambulance arrives. When they leave I walk towards her and she leans down to start picking up the towels. She stands up and her face twists in pain before she starts falling. I run forward just in time and catch her before she hits the ground. I lift her bridal style and carry her over to another booth. One of the paramedics just happen to come back inside for Marilyn's purse and sees us. He checks her over really quick and said that she just fainted from the loss of adrenaline and she'll be fine.

Relieved, I send a text to Agent Holmes and let him know what happened. He tells me to take her to the hospital and her doctor will meet us there. I ask her boss for her purse and he goes to the back getting it for me. He tells the rest of the gang that he'll clean up the mess, to take her to the hospital. He knows her story, so he seems to be very lenient when it comes to her.

I give Ray the keys to her car so he can take it to her house with Brianne following him, while I take her to the hospital and the rest of the gang following us. Her doctor is already there when we arrive and he takes her into a room immediately, letting me follow. I tell him about her delivering the baby and after they took the new mother and baby to the hospital, she looked like she was in pain and passed out.

"She forgot herself tonight and remembered something from her past to help someone out. Once it was done and the adrenaline high wore off, her mind reacted and the pain hit and she passed out. She'll be fine. We just have to wait until she wakes up to see what happens." He tells me. He brings back a cover and puts it on her. He takes one look at me and says, "I'll go out there and let your friends know."

"Thanks."

He walks out the door leaving me alone with her. I take her hand and start talking to her, because I don't know what else to do. "You were amazing tonight! I don't know what would have happened if you weren't there. You were obviously a doctor or a nurse before you lost your memory. I'll be here when you wake up."

The door opens and Melanie walks inside. "He told us one of us could come in and I volunteered myself. How is she?"

"She's resting quietly." I tell her. "She was awesome tonight! She knew exactly what to do. That woman just happened to be in the right place at the right time tonight." She tells me. I nod in agreement. "I want you to know that I trusted her from the beginning. It really cemented it for me at the barbecue because the kids love her. Did you see Tyler? He just crawled right into her lap. We didn't have to force him to do anything."

"I know. He normally has to get to know someone for a long while before he does that. He wouldn't let his daycare teacher come near him for six weeks. He climbs up into her lap after an hour. That has to say a lot." I add.

"When are you going to ask her out?" She asks me. "I'm not ready yet. I just feel like it's too soon. I know that it's been seven months, but I feel that I haven't mourned her long enough to move on." I tell her. "Does this have anything to do with Brianne?" She inquires. "Maybe just a little bit. I want her to feel comfortable when I start dating again also since she was Chloe's best friend." I respond.
