“Cece?” I exclaimed in disbelief, shaking off the remnants of the chloroform that had knocked me out and regarding Derek’s sister with astonishment. She was leaning over me, blocking my view of the rest of the room. Was she the one who’d kidnapped me? Why?
“Aww. Poor, confused, defenseless Chris,” Cece replied with a nasty smirk, tightening the ropes around my wrists and standing back to stare at me with a gleam in her dark eyes. I struggled vainly against my binds, scowling at Cece as I fought back tears. It was a rough week when PMS and getting kidnapped by your fiancé’s sister hit at the same time; my hormones were going crazy.
“Why are you doing this?” I hissed, glaring at Cece as she turned to leave. She spun around, brown curls flying as her eyebrows shot up.
“Isn’t it obvious?”
“Not really.”
“It will be,” she said ominously before departing out of the only visible exit to the room, the large wooden door to my right. I took my chance to observe my surroundings, scanning over the dark wood paneled walls and floor, the various bookshelves and chests lined up on the wall facing me. I seemed to be seated on a desk chair with my back to the actual desk, my hands tied up behind me. There wasn’t much else in the room besides books and files, although there seemed to be a small bed or couch all the way to my left, just out of the line of my peripherals.
Just as I was about to look around for a weapon or something to try and break my binds with, I heard a noise sound from the left of the room and I did my best to spin around.
“Who’s there?” I barked, my body trembling as fear coursed through my veins. For all I knew, Cece had brought me here to torture and kill me. Oh God. No. But the thin voice that responded didn’t sound like it belonged to a butch Ex-Marine who had a thing for redhead teen girls.
“I’m…I’m Cora,” the voice said through a loud cough, obviously struggling to speak at all. I craned my head as far back as it would go, which allowed me to catch the briefest glimpse of a brunette girl who was tied to the bed, hands above her head. Before I could look closer, however, my neck twanged painfully and I was forced to look straight ahead again.
“I’m Chris. Nice to meet you, Cora.”
“I think we can disregard niceties considering we’re both being held captive by those two psychos.”
“There are two of them?” I exclaimed, my heartbeat pounding faster and harder in my chest at the revelation. So it’s not just Cece…somebody’s helping her.
“Yeah. There’s the brunette bitch and then a blonde guy,” Cora told me, her voice gaining strength. My mind spun as I wrestled with the tiny but terrifying idea that was festering in the back of my brain. Blonde guy…working with Cece…it can’t be. I swallowed hard, my eyes welling up with tears again as I desperately I wished Derek could be here. No…I don’t want Derek here, I want to be wherever he is right now. Anywhere but here. I hated feeling vulnerable and unsafe, and knowing that Derek was out there worrying about me only made it worse. I hope this doesn’t send him back on the “Being together gets you hurt” path.
“There’s a blonde guy?” I asked in faux-innocence, trying to dig more out of Cora to disprove my wild theory. To my relief, she provided more information in response.
“Yeah he’s a real ass. Tall, blonde hair, dresses like an Abercrombie model-“
“Australian accent?”
“Yeah…how’d you know?”
“Because I know who she’s working with,” I said heavily, letting a few tears drop down my cheeks. Josh. Somehow, some way, Cece had teamed up with Josh to kidnap us. I guess Josh never really went to jail then. I sniffled back the rest of my tears, remembering with icy clarity what Josh had been after ever since he’d set foot in Beacon Hills. Not me, not Cece…Derek. They’re holding me hostage for Derek. That still didn’t explain why Cora was in here too, but I knew that if we didn’t get out of here we were as good as dead, and so was Derek.
