Chapter Nineteen ~ Flashback
The muddy walls around the young fifteen year old seemed to close in around him. He sank to the floor, giving up. He had been pounding against the wall for hours, screaming for help and for his sister. He held his head in his hands; his knees tucked under his chin, and allowed himself a small sob.
'Told you it wasn't going to work,' Finnick heard the voice and sighed irritably. Caden had been making annoying comments the whole time Finnick had been trying to find a way out. He was sitting on the left corner of the large cube, picking his fingernails with a knife.
They had found themselves transported, as if sucked into the ground, to this empty room. Strangely enough there was a dim light so that Finnick could make out if anyone else was in here, but he couldn't find the source. He had assumed that that would be the way out, but after scouring the whole room for almost an hour he found nothing.
'Why don't you do something useful, like get off your arse and come help me find a way out!' Finnick cried, his voice rising a little too high for his liking.
'Calm down kid,' Caden said, way too composed for Finnick's liking.
'We're stuck underground, and your telling me to CALM DOWN!?' Finn screamed the last two words, jumping to his feet and storming over to the nonchalant silver-eyed boy.
'Yes, you're way too stressed out for my liking and I can't think.' Caden said, shutting his eyes and rubbing his temples, ignoring Finn's presence completely. Finnick took a deep breath resisting the enormous urge to punch this ignorant fool in the face.
'Think? What are you talking about!? I never knew a brainless idiot like you, could actually form thoughts in your head!' Finnick cried out.
'I'm full of surprise's' Caden said, looking up at Finnick and shooting him a huge grin.
'That's it...' Finnick threatened, taking a couple more steps until he was right in front of Caden. Caden smirked at him and gave him a what-are-you-going-to-do look.
'What's it?' Caden's smirk grew wider and Finnick raised his fist, and slammed it into his face. Pain flared through Finn's knuckles, but the satisfaction of hitting Caden made it dull a little. Caden's head had shot to the side and his slightly overgrown dark hair hid his face. But slowly he turned his head to look at Finnick; his silver eyes glinted with something that made Finn take a step back.
'Did that feel good?' Caden asked, smiling gently while trying to stop the blood pouring from his nose.
'Y-Yeah,' Finnick stammered.
'Good, I had been waiting for you to do that. Now we can really get out of here.' Caden sprung up and dusted himself off. Finnick just stared at him. 'Are you going to help?' Caden asked, an eyebrow rising.
'Yeah, but-' Finnick started.
'But nothing,' Caden finished for him. 'Listen, Finnick. I know you don't like me very much, trust me the feeling's mutual, but you want to see your sister again right? Well so do I. So let's find a way out of here, huh?' Finnick glared at him, but his heart softened a little at the mention of Prim. It was obvious Caden cared about her; even if it wasn't in the way Finn wanted him to.
'Fine,' He grumbled, moving to the spot where Caden was sitting, and squatting down. This was the only place that Finnick hadn't had a chance to look. He ran his hands of the smooth mud digging his fingernails into the crooks. Caden had wedged himself between two walls, and so where they met they were a line going straight down that was a little lighter than the muddy brown. Finnick ran his finger down it, staring intently at it, trying to see some major difference, but unfortunately there was none. He sighed heavily, and resigned himself to checking the room again. He stood up and turned around just as Caden called his name. There in front of them was a long tunnel that hadn't been there before. It stretched for miles, meaning that the boys couldn't see anything.
