Game On

I made my way to my room after the table was cleared and helped Shirley put away the dishes. I grabbed my guitar and propped my back up against the wall behind my bed, strumming a few chords and relaxing to the cricket chirps outside. I heard the sound of small footsteps and a creaking outside my door. Lydia. This could be fun.

I played for awhile more until I had an idea. As the small footsteps got closer, I cautiously moved towards the door, still playing my guitar. I quickly pulled the door open and scared the living daylight out of a wet, undressed Lydia, caught in her not so sneaky attempt to listen to me play.

Lydia's POV

*in shower previous to last event*

What is it about that boy that is already causing me to think about him in the shower? Well for one thing, he's extremely attractive and in shape, second of all, he's a complete gentleman. I mean, how can the simple gesture of him taking my plate away cause cheesy shower thoughts? How can he even make a dirty plate seem sexy? I can already tell this will be a long summer.

Stepping out of the shower I realize that, of course, I forgot the boy lives on the same floor and I forgot to bring clothes into the bathroom for me to change into. Wrapping the small towel around my wet body, I braved the hallway. As quietly as I could, I unlocked the door and peered out, only to find the soft strum of a guitar fill the silence. I tiptoed over to the source and listened to the music. For a moment I forgot about my lack of clothing or location until the door swung open. Matthew stood in his doorway, shirtless and holding onto his guitar with one arm and with the other stretched and hanging onto the doorframe above our heads. My eyes took in his flexed bicep, tan and thick. The tan, golden skin expanded across his smooth, wide shoulders and down his shapely torso. My eyes finally made their way up to his smirking pink lips and amused, sparkling eyes. His eyes were flickering between my gaze and my towel wrapped body. I tightened my towel with an awkward clearing of the throat and rocked onto my tiptoes a few times, (an awkward habit). He watched me and extended his other arm onto the doorframe, and hung his head while chuckling to himself, clearly finding amusement in the silent charade we were playing. As he shook with amusement, his torso contracted and flexed, giving me another chance to admire his body. Goddammit, why was he always shirtless?

"Oh this will be a very interesting summer. Won't it, miss Lydia?" Matthew chortled.

And then he smugly closed the door without me getting out a single word.

And that is how my Summer started.

*next morning*
Lydia's POV

After my post shower event that played out last night, I was determined to show Matthew a new, less timid form of Lydia Braddock. The real Lydia Braddock who wasn't opposed to a little game of flirtation. I had my fair share of boys back home, but I can't lie when I admit he has the manliest appeal versus the rest of them. Something about him lit excitement within me, and I was gonna let that flame consume me.

I curled my hair, put on a light summer dress, and applied some light makeup. He wanted to play a game, and I was happy to join.

I skipped down the steps to the kitchen and Shirley and Bill harmonized in a chorus of 'good morning's while Matthew sat smirking at the kitchen table.

"Mornin'!" I chirped back with a smile.

"Matthew here was just telling us about your plans for today" Shirley commented.

Confused I questioned, "Did he now?"

"Sounds to me like a pleasant day ya got planned", Bill added.

"I sure hope so" I played along.

"Eat your breakfast and get going, you two!" Shirley piped.

*outside*

Matthew joined me outside and confidently slid into my truck.

"What do you think you're doing?" I fired.

"Hop in, honey" Matthew replied.

"I'll play along, I just don't see why I can't drive on our adventure" I countered.

"Right, cuz you know your way around town" he sarcastically replied.

"Plus, I wouldn't want you to miss the chance of checking out my arms as I handled the wheel" Matthew teased.

And just to prove his point, he stretched his arm over my headrest and dramatically leaned into me as he backed out onto the road.

...Oh he was good
