Lydia's POV
I woke up to the warm hug of my blanket cocoon and the smell of clean cotton. I scrunched up the sheets and breathed in the scent. I started to smile just thinking about the night previous. The last thing I remembered was laughing at Matthew when he revealed his fear of squirrels as we stumbled up the stairs to our rooms, because then I recall having Matthew giggle as I crawled into my bed and huffed. I remember shushing him and begging for him to let me sleep. Oh gosh I was embarrassing.
I got up and took a well needed shower, put on makeup, and decided to go for a messy updo that day. I made my way downstairs and ate the eggs Shirley had just made. Then Matthew walked into the kitchen looking quite tired and almost in pain.
Matthews POV
(Hours previous)With ten minutes left of our drive, Lydia fell asleep mid-conversation. She had her arms hugged around her knees and her head tilted against the head rest. She was so beautiful and peaceful looking. I turned my eyes back to the road and shook my head. She's gonna be the death of me.
After those last ten minutes, we made it back home and it killed me having to wake up her up. I whispered her name after turning off the car. She didn't budge. I sighed and watched her until I reached out a hand and cupped her cheek, brushing my thumb against her smooth skin. She leaned her head into my hand and I laughed, causing her to wake up. She realized we were home and we both made our way into the house as she mumbled some more silly questions for me to answer. When we got to the stairs, she missed a step and broke down into a contagious fit of giggles, and sat down holding onto the railing.
"C'mon silly," I laughed.
I held her waist and guided her sleep deprived body up the rest of the way. When we got to the top, I let her go and she walked one room too soon, directly into mine.
"Oh- Lydia," I laughed.
"Shhhh," she piped.
She lifted my sheets and got into bed.
"Lydia-" I attempted.
"Matthew please I just want to sleep," she pouted.
I couldn't bare to tell her, so I gathered a few extra blankets and slept next to my own bed. She was too cute to say no to... and I am so weak.
I woke up at seven, with too many thoughts swirling in my head- all of them about the girl curled up in my very comfy bed that ranked way better than my hard floor. I knew she'd be so confused when she woke up, and I didn't want her to get the wrong idea, so after much consideration, I picked her up along with my sheets and carried her to her own bed. She laid her head against my chest and I could feel my heart practically ache. I laid her down and her golden hair sprawled against her pillow. She was a perfect vision. My back was killing me from the floor sleep, so I went back to my bed. My sheets smelled like her. Like flowers and sunscreen. My pillow even smelled like her shampoo scent that she left behind to swirl around our bathroom after her showers. It was sweet and fruity, and she was my weakness.
When I woke up, I saw I had gotten a couple more hours and so I decided to shower. I walked in and smelled her shampoo in the steam filled space. Of course. I changed after that and made my way downstairs for breakfast. My back still hurt as I walked to the kitchen. I lifted my head to the sweetest, concerned face and my back suddenly didn't hurt anymore.
