Lydia's POV

Before I knew it, we were out of my grandparents' neighborhood and on our way through the hustle and bustle of Charleston's busy town excitement.

"Alright, Miss Lydia...do you like music", he inquired after a minute or two.

"Who doesn't", I laughed.

"Yeah that was a dumb question, I'll keep asking some and you tell me when I'm doing okay", he suggested.

I smirked

"Well, if I'm gonna be stuck with you all summer, I might as well try to tolerate your presence", he added.

"Oh?" I laughed

He joined me, "Alright, favorite movie", he asked.

"Forest Gump", I replied without haste.

"Okay, Jenny", he mimicked in Tom Hanks' voice.

"That was awful", I admitted.

"Worst fear", he ignored me and continued.

"Jeez, uh... snakes", I decided.

"Who wouldn't be afraid of them? Biggest pet peeve"

"When people talk with food in their mouths"

"What do you want to do someday?"

"Have my own cooking show"

"What kind of cooking? And favorite food?"

"Everything. And peach cobbler"

And as quick as a whip, he asked, "Place of first kiss", he caught me off guard, smirking.

I laughed and shook my head "Umm I think at a sweaty school dance", I cringed. He made a sympathetic laugh.

"Well how bout you? Are you the only person in the whole world who didn't have a cringe- worthy first kiss?", I fired.

He took a side glance at me, and adverted his eyes back to the road.

"Well", I questioned breaking the silence.

"Haven't had mine", he cooly stated, leaving me speechless.

"...wait...you- no...", I scrambled.

He sighed, "I know, it's hard to believe with how good lookin I am.", he proudly stated.

I laughed, "Shut up....the thought did cross my mind though...", I admitted.

He nodded in confirmation and smiled.

"But, seriously, how have you not had yours?" I asked.

"I don't know, it's probably from all the white lies I tell girls to show my sensitive side..."

He smirked.

"You're an ass", I huffed.

"Oh c'mon", he whined. "You still think it was funny", he poked my side and I cracked a smile.

"Awe there it is. Matthew's so funny just say it", he teased, grabbing at my waist again.

"S-stop, Matthew!", I strained out. He laughed, squeezed my thigh and put his hand back on the wheel.

"You're the first girl to ever say those words to me", he commented.

"Ew", I spat.

He chuckled, "Or that".

"Stop!", I laughed and he laughed harder.

We sat listening to music for awhile until he opened his mouth again," So you think I'm attractive?", he asked like he remembered something.

"What?", I blushed.

"When you thought I hadn't had my first kiss, I teased you about how surprising it was with me being so good lookin, and you said the thought had crossed your mind", he mentally gathered. He turned to me with a smile.

"...I...", I froze.

"What was that?", he pushed.

"I said the thought had crossed my mind" I dumbly restated.

"So you think about me?", he countered.

" I-"

"In the shower?", he quickly fired?

"Wh-"

"Hey look, we're here!", he sarcastically cut me off and pulled into a parking lot crowded with girls wearing tiny, jean shorts and crop tops and sweaty guys holding cups of beer in their hands.

"Ever been to a concert festival, Miss Lydia?"
