Chapter 3

Ashley pov

Percy jackson is...was?is? My best friend. I was the outsider at goode. But percy came and totally changed my life. Okay, okay, i know how cheesy that sounds- loner girl meets popular guy, starts in friendship, ends in more. Just the kind of movie i hate. But percy was not like that. He was not popular. I never had any feelings for him. So you can imagine my surprise when out of the blue percy disappeared for almost a full school year. He was there one day, the next not. At first i thought he was sick. After a couple weeks i grew worried for my friend. I asked emma and her new boyfriend, Andrew to come ask mr blowfis where percy was.

Flashback

We walked quietly into the room, extremely apprehensive. At that moment i realized i didn't really want to know what happened to percy. Ignorance is quite often a virtue after all.
"Mr Blowfis?" I asked hesitantly.

"Hmm, oh hello emma, ashley, Andrew, what can i do for you?"

"Ummm, actually, its about percy. He has been gone for a long time, and , well, we were just wondering if he was okay." I said. Our teachers face turned pale. He looked down sadly.

"Percy will be away for a little while, but i am sure he is fine," he said the last part as if trying to convince himself.

We left that room with one question-where was percy jackson?

Flashback over

Percy has always been a shorts and tee shirt kind of guy. In fact, before this year, i have never seen him wear long pants. But on the first day of school he showed up in long pants and a gray hoodie. When i asked him where he had been he flinched. When i looked in his eyes they seemed shattered. Broken like glass. He might have been percy. But he was not the percy we knew.

TIME SKIP TO HISTORY CLASS

Still ashley pov

We walked into history together, well all of us except percy, he was still mad about lunch. I was skeptical, history was never that fun.

I saw percy walk in late, and tried to catch his eye. He smiled a fraction of a smile and sat down in the desk nest to me. That was another thing about the new percy. He smiled all the time, but it was always fake, just the ghost of a smile.

"Okay class, we will be studying greek myths in an effort to parallel the english class. " said mrs ryan "however in this class we will take a more historical approach. We will read the actual myths and talk about them. "

I noticed that percy had a smirk on his face. What was is it with this year and greek myths?

"Now who know the name of the earth, we will focus on her for the first part of the year?" I saw percy shiver, but i shrugged it off, it was a bit drafty in here after all.

"Gaia," i said, feeling proud that i had know the answer. I looked over at percy, hoping for a smile, but his face was pale and his eyes scrunched tight.

"Good," said mrs ryan, oblivious to percy.

"What about her husband, what did she do to him."

" she chopped him up and threw him in to, in to, tarturas." A boy in the back said happily.

I looked over at percy and when i saw him i had a heart attack. His eyes were glazed over. He was clawing at the desk making his fingers bleed.

"Perce?" I tapped him on the shoulder.       He promptly fell over. As soon as he hit the ground he started to scream. Horrible blood curdling screams.

"Annabeth...no....im right here...stop....bob....help....alive...nyx...
River...give up...diiiieeee!" He screamed the last word at the top of his lungs. He went up to the kid sitting next to him, cade, i think, and pressed him up against the wall.

"You, you killed her, you killed annabeth!" He snarled sobbing and pushing on cade's neck at the same time.

"No," cade managed to choke out. His face turning red.

"She didn't even know i was there! She thought she was alone because of you!" Percy screamed. He pressed even harder and cade fell unconscious.

"Perce," i touched his sholder and he crumpled, like a rag doll, on the ground.

"Percy," i said and he opened his eyes.

"Oh, oh gods what have i done!" Percy asked in a whisper.

Percy went right home after that. But the episode made us all wonder, what had percy jackson been through?  Oh so many questions, i sighed.
