Chapter 5 ~ Secrets

“Oh my gosh!” Jade exclaimed, “She’s so cute! And you just found her here? She’s a stray?”

“Yeah I found her when I stumbled upon this place.” I say sitting on a couch across from the two girls.

Jade adored the beautiful pit bull; Amber was getting lots of petting, and hugging. Jade’s face was covered in Amber’s doggie kisses and Jade couldn’t stop smiling.

“Amber seems to like you.” I comment as Amber rolls over for a belly-rub.

“I love dogs. Pit Bulls are my favorites!” Jade laughs complying with Amber and rubbing her stomach.

I smile and stretch out as I watch them. Today I had on my black skinny jeans, my chains on my belt loops, and a Falling in Reverse tee shirt. Jade looked awesome in an ACDC shirt and black skinnies with high top converse.

She had brought a ton of food for us, and said that later today I had an interview with her parents at their bookstore for a job. I Hoped I would get the job so then I wouldn’t have to burden Jade with providing for us.

I decided to go through the bulging Wall-Mart bag she had brought Amber and I. There was a small bag of dog kibble and a bunch of junk food. A bag of Lays, Gatorade, cans of miscellanies sodapop, peanut butter, and some bagels.

“Thanks for this Jade, it means a lot.” I say looking up from the treasures.

“No problem, we’re stocked.” She comments and strokes Amber’s head as she starts falling asleep beside her.

“So, August. Are you ready to go?”

“Yeah just give me a second.” I nod and head upstairs.

I walk into my room and shut my door, I take off my FIR shirt and spread my still broken wings. Although I looked normal when I had them carefully folded up I questioned what jade would think.

Oh hey Jade I forgot to tell you, I’m a fallen angel, cast down from heaven. Oh hello, yes I need a pick up for the insane asylum, man here thinks he’s a angel.

I’d just have to suck it up and hide it from everyone until I’m accepted by God, or meet my demise.

I slide my shirt back on and run a comb through my hair and try to look presentable. I smiled shyly at my reflection and headed downstairs to meet Jade again.

“Okay, I’m ready.”

“Hello Mr…” A tall, lanky man like myself shakes my hand firmly.

“I’m August, August Jordan.” I say returning the strong handshake.

“It’s nice to meet you August, I’m Jeremy Clarkson. This is my wife Desrae Clarkson.” I turn and shake the hand of a glowing woman with hair as long and pitch black as Jade’s.

“I’m sure you’ve met Jade.” Desrae motions outside of their office to Jade managing the cash register.

I nod. “She’s a very fine girl, and it’s very nice to meet you both.” I smile.

“You’re a very nice young man.” The woman smiled warmly at me causing me to blush slightly.

“We are in need of a cashier, and someone to check inventory. We need more time off and need to manage our money.” Mr. Clarkson says.

“I can do that.” I nod, “And I’m sure Jade will show me the ropes.”

“You’re hired then, welcome to Flying Jay Bookstore, August.” Mr. Clarkson stands up and shakes my hand once more.

“You start tomorrow.” Mrs. Clarkson says.

“Will do, I’ll be in bright and early.” I say and walk out of the office.

Immediately Jade dashed over to me. “Are you in?”

“Yep, I’ll see you tomorrow.” I smile.

Surprisingly she wraps her arms around me and laughs. “Yay!”

I hug her back and laugh. “I’ll see you later Jade, I’m sure Amber’s hungry right about now.”

“Go then, see you later, August.” She looked overjoyed as I left the shop with a shy wave and walked down the street.

I had a job, maybe things were looking up.
