I then left out.  When I returned to the waiting room, Alvaro, and Dina were sharing a laugh.

Alvaro noticed me, looked up and was smiling.

“Is everything alright Free” Alvaro asked.

“Yeah they just gonna keep her tonight just to observe and stuff” I said.

“That’s good. I’m glad she’s ok. Are you ready now” Alvaro said.

“I am” I said. Then we left out.

“Free listen, I think you should come home with us tonight” Alvaro said as he cut on the car.

“Huh?” I said.

“Yeah ya know it’s pretty late, and I wouldn’t feel safe if I knew you were home alone. Tonight has been rough. It’s only for tonight” Alvaro said.

“I got school in the morning”  I said.

“Yeah I know, I’ll take you by your house to get a change of clothes or whatever” Alvaro said.

“You sure?” I said.

“Of course I’m sure. It’ll be fine Free. Just come” Alvaro said.

“If it helps you sleep at night, fine” I said.  I was actually pretty curious to see how Alvaro was living anyway. I mean he did have a nice ride, and what not.  When he did dress up he actually looked pretty wealthy.

Alvaro took me by my house and I packed an overnight bag.  Then we rode to his place. Well he lived way out of  my hood that’s for sure. It was almost a thirty minute drive to his neighborhood.  When we did get in his neighborhood, it was like a whole new world.

Ain’t it funny how only a few miles apart the rich, and the poor were. That one fine line divided the hood, ghetto, projects, from the suburbs.  The neighborhood was nice though. Really big pretty houses with some very nice cars in the driveway.  It was really quiet too.  Nobody was hanging out on the corners, no rap music was blasting,  no cars flying down the street like bats out of hell, and definitely no police sirens anywhere.  Alvaro  pulled into the driveway of  a big beautiful white house. It was like three stories high, and huge.  In the front it had this extremely long row of stairs that lead to the front door.  I wondered did Dina climb those steps everyday, pregnancy and all.

“Baby I don’t think I could do those steps tonight” Dina said.

“Alright I’ll open the side door. You alright” Alvaro asked with a look of concern.

“Yeah just a few cramps” Dina said.

“Ok Free, can you help my wife out the truck, I’m gonna go open the side door real quick” Alvaro said.

“Sure” I said getting out the car.  I opened the passenger’s door, and  offered Dina my hand.  She grabbed my hand, and her hand was really soft just saying. Dina took a  deep breath, as she eased her way out of the truck.  Her foot slipped, and she almost lost her balance, and I felt my heart jump.  I didn’t want her to injure herself in anyway.
