Chapter 20

“Nothing much, just hanging out. Hold on” Dawn said. Dawn turned to the other girls, and said something in Spanish. They exchanged words for a minute, and they left with a smile. 

“What you doing, you ain’t have to leave your company”  I said. 

“No actually I did, I wanna talk to you real quick” Dawn said. I don’t know but suddenly my heart jumped a few beats. 

“Why what’s up? What’s going on?” I said. 

“Can we go up to your place, chat a little bit more privately” Dawn said with  a very convincing smile. 

Now I could do two things right now. I can say “hell nawl, bitch you ain’t slick, anything you gotta say you better say it right goddamn here” or I can ride the wave, go up to my apartment,   and deal with consequences later.   Which do you think I choose. 

Smart Free would go with answer choice a, but stupid dumb Free would go wit b. I guess I was about to stupid dumb Free then. 

“Yeah sure, after you” I said holding the door open. Dawn smiled at me, as she went in.  I know I shouldn’t be doing this. I know  I should just really not do this. I was making a terrible mistake.  This was gonna cost me big. What was I doing? Why was I doing this? Damn me. 

I unlocked the door to my apartment, and let Dawn in. 

“So what’s going on Dawn?” I said as I shut the door behind me. 

“It’s about Raymond” Dawn said sitting down on my couch.  My heart jumped. 

“What about him” I asked. 

“Did you guys ever date?” Dawn asked. 

“Nope, never. Why?” I said. 

“Why he so mad at me then?” Dawn said. 

“Huh? Girl what are you talking about” I said sitting beside her. 

“Yesterday Free, I saw him at the basketball court.  He pulled me to the side, said he wanted to talk ya know. And so I was like ok cool. And he just blurts out “so you fucking Free too now”  and I was like no not at all, he thought I was lying, and he just got all crazy. Told me he’s gonna tell Angus all about it, and I was gonna get got for being foolish. You haven’t told anybody we were dating have you?” Dawn said. 

“Of course not. No way. But who’s Angus” I asked. 

“Remember my crazy ex-boyfriend I told you about. His name is Angus, and he’s a fucking lunatic” Dawn said. 

Dawn seem kind of shook by all this. She didn’t show it but her hazel green eyes told it all. 

“Ok so what you telling me all this for” I asked.
