Chapter 8: Laser Tagging Disaster

(Claire's POV)

So, I call Nica to ask if she wants to come to Laser Tag, obviously she says yes cause Drew’s coming. We get into Jessica's car and go to pick up Nica, then Keaton Wesley, and Drew.  Jessica’s lazy to drive so I do. During the drive, it’s awkward between Keaton and I. We haven’t spoken since he got in the car. We didn't even say hi to each other. Out of nowhere Jessica asks, “So, Keaton what's up with you and Claire?" I step on the break as hard as I can. "WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!" Everyone yells. "Oh sorry, I thought something was ummm co-coming..." I keep driving while Jessica’s quick to go back on the subject. I look at Keaton through the rear view mirror, he’s turning so red. He smiles; his smile always makes me happy. "Well, I don't know..." he said.”Fine don’t tell me, hoes." Jessica said. Nica and Wes laugh. "Are we almost there?" Nica asks. "We'll get there when we get there," I laugh at her. When we finally arrive at the place, Keaton holds my hand as I walk out of the car. My heart starts racing. I’m so happy.

(Nica's POV)

"Hey, Nica!" Drew says. "Oh, hi." It's been a while since we last talked and I thought he didn't like me anymore. I really like him, and I didn't want us not to talk or for it to be awkward. He looks at me and smiles; I smile right back at him. As we all walk towards the entrance he put his arm around me. The butterflies are back. When we walk inside one of the employee's comes up to us. "Who's teaming up with whom?" He asks. "We should be a team," Claire says, while pointing at me and Jessica. "Okay so the teams are made...." The man explains the rules and we start towards the game area. When the game begins I have no idea what I’m doing. Of course, Clair’s over there with her competitive self, trying to shoot her own team mates. I’m so confused.

(Claire's POV)

I’m so into the game, I’m having so much fun. When I see Keaton he’s about to shoot me, then he comes up to me and hugs me. I hug him back and then after we stop I shoot him, he’s out. He laughs and he has to wait for a little bit before he can play again. Its ten minutes into the game andNica disappears after her phone rings. She’s been gone for a while, so we go look for her. We find her in the bathroom crying. "What's wrong Nica?" I ask, concerned. "My mom's cancer came back," she says while wiping her tears. "Oh my god, your mom has cancer why didn't you tell us?" Jessica asks, shock written in her face. "I didn't want to make a big problem since it went away for 3 months." We hug her and sit next to her. Doing the only thing we can in a situation like this, we comfort her.
