Chapter 8 Answers

Gou and the team decided to come to Umi’s house to clear everything. Why is she acting different since they meet again. Gou is so concern to her cause she is like a sister to her. Umi’s sudden change is bothering her.

            “Umi’s house is just near Haru’s house.” Makoto noticed.

            “Oh your right.” Nagisa agreed.

            They knock on her house but no one responds. They knock and wait again but they just got the same result.

            “Are you looking for Umi-chan?” the old lady on the next house asked.

            “Yes we are.” They answered.

            “Oh she’s not there maybe she is on the oceanarium again. You can wait her here in my house if you want. Are you Umi’s friends?” she said.

            “Thank you for letting us waits her in your house and yes we are her friends.” Gou said and they went to the old lady’s house.

            The old lady serves them tea and biscuits.

            “Wow! This is delicious.” Nagisa commented.

            “Hmmmmm yes it is.” Gou agreed.

            “Oh thank you.” The old lady said. “It’s been a long time since a friend of her pays a visit.” She added.

            “What do you mean? Umi-chan is a friendly person. She likes to be friends with others.” Gou said.

            “Yes she is. But maybe what happened these years’ makes her put herself away with others.” The old lady replied.

            “What happened then?” Makoto asked.

            The old lady became silent for a while, and then she took a photo album from a room and handed it to them. They look and scan the pages. There are pictures of her and her brother. There, they can see different Umi unlike today. She is very cheerful and energetic in the pictures. They also see in the album her talent in underwater photography. A photo of her amazing swimming style that was taken by her brother. She was like a mermaid swimming with the fishes. And her beautiful captive smile that is shown in every picture. In the last page is the picture of her waterproof camera with a caption To: Umi.

            “Whoa! Is this really she?” nagisa asked.

            “Yeah, that was her before.” The old lady said.

            “What do you mean before?” Rei asked.

            “Her father died while sailing on the day that she was born.” The old lady said.

            “Yes it is. She told me that before.” Gou said.

            “Then when she was 13 her brother died in drowning while taking pictures underwater.” Old lady said.

            “What?! That can’t be. Her brother is a good swimmer and diver.” Gou said shock and can’t believe.

            “Even we can’t believe in what happened but it was already happened. A year after that her mother died in a heart disease and she spent her last day in the shore with Umi.” The old lady said.

            Everybody is shock of what have heard. Now they understand how she feels and why she acts that way. What happened to her was really depressing.

            Gou started to cry and said, “I-I am so bad. Why I don’t knew about this. I’m not a good friend I’m not here when she needs me.” She continues to cry as Makoto tries to calm her.

            “The death of her family is just one of the reasons why she put herself isolated. The fact that her beloved ocean take everything she have.” The old lady said.

            “What do you mean?” Nagisa asked.

            “She loves the ocean so much that she can’t get angry on it even it takes away her family. That why it’s kind of hard on her. But she decided to stop swimming and taking pictures.” Old lady explained.

            “That can’t be. She is a good swimmer and underwater photographer.” Nagisa commented.

            “Before that where do you think she is now?” Gou asked.

            “Hmmm I think she is on the oceanarium right now. She used to go there.” Old lady answered.

            “Alright let’s go.” Gou said.

            And she stormed out the house with the boys.
