The next morning, Sawyer woke up on the floor. The sunlight streaming in through the window made her squint, and she groaned as she dragged herself up. She didn't notice it right away, but when she did, it hit her like a punch to the gut. It started at her wrist, crawling up to her palm and up her forearm. It looked like blue poison was clogging her veins. She knew what it meant. She had used too much of her magic yesterday. Her time was running out. She glanced at her tattoo, expecting to see the familiar 268. Instead she saw a 265. Her heart dropped.

"Good morning, trouble." Dusty said as she approached him. She sat next to him and grabbed a bowl. He stared at her wrist."Did you hurt yourself yesterday?" He asked with concern. She had wrapped a bandage around her arm to conceal the state of her skin and her tattoo.
"It's just a sprain." She answered. Sawyer dug into her breakfast, trying to ignore the commotion that was taking place. The Lost boys were crowding around the fire, and Pan was standing on an elevated tree stump.
"Lost boys!" He shouted. "What do you say to a game of hide and seek?" Everyone cheered. Sawyer rolled her eyes. Sparks and Clocks suddenly appeared at her side.
"Come on!" Sparks said excitedly, grabbing her bandaged hand and pulling her up. Sawyer cried out in pain, and yanked her wrist out of his hand. She held it to her chest as she rubbed it, choking back tears of pain.
"Sawyer, are you okay? Did I hurt you?" Sparks asked, searching her eyes. People were looking at them now, Pan included.
"I'm fine. It's just a sprain." She lied.
"You sure?" Clocks asked. "I can take a look at it if you want-" He reached for her hand.
"No! No, it's okay." She said a little too quickly. Pan was looking at her. He knew a lie when he saw one.
"Alright, you all know the rules!" Felix shouted. "You can hide anywhere on the island, just don't be found." Pan averted his eyes from Sawyer and started counting. Everyone disappeared into the forest. This was exactly what Sawyer needed, an excuse to be away from everyone. Especially Pan. She ran full speed into the jungle, going deeper than anyone else. She found a little nook in the forest by a cluster of moss covered rocks and bushes. Kneeling on the grass, she peeled the bandage away from her skin. It had gotten worse, the blue veins were thicker and they had moved farther up her arm. She quickly wrapped it back up, even though putting it out of sight wouldn't change anything. She had to think of something fast. She needed medicine, but for what? She had no idea what was wrong with her. Well, she did know what was wrong with her, but she had no idea how to fix it. Last time she checked, there wasn't a Neverland gift shop selling magic by the pound. She needed magic and she needed it now. An idea popped into her head. She knew just where to look. Her feet were quiet as she snuck through the forest, avoiding all the other boys. She made her way back to camp, and silently crept over to Pan's treehouse and up the ladder. It was empty, but it looked neater than the last time she'd been there. She immediately crossed over to the desk and found the secret latch. The drawer slid open, but it was bare. Sawyer scrunched her face in confusion as she stared at the contents of the drawer. There was nothing but a folded piece of paper. Her shaking fingers unfolded it. A single sentence was scrawled in precise handwriting. Stop looking in my desk. Sawyer scoffed and rolled her eyes. That bastard, she thought bitterly. She shoved the drawer closed. He's onto me.

"Sawyer?" Clocks said in confusion. She was sitting casually on a log around the fire, sharpening her dagger. Everyone was filing back into camp after the game ended."Where've you been? We were looking for you during the game." Sparks said, sitting down next to her. She shrugged.
"I got bored of it." She answered simply. Pan strolled over to his treehouse as Sawyer's eyes followed his every move. Dusty's fingers snapped in front of her face.
