It was a few weeks later. Pan was working with the few pieces of information he had. Lyra Faber, Isabelle Larkin. Wonderland. He wondered how much of her power was natural and how much was bought. It was later in the day when Pan slipped a piece of paper into Sawyer's pocket. When she noticed it, she read it with a confused expression. Meet me in the Pixie Woods when the sun sets~Peter. She was confused, but when the sky turned to a dark blue, she did as the note instructed. With her cloak over her shoulders and a lantern in her hand, she searched the woods for him.
"Pan?" She called. The forest floor was covered in tall grass and foliage that reached nearly to her waist. The moonlight shone through the tress.
"Pan?" She said again, scanning the area. Without a sound, Pan emerged from the grass, shadows across his face. With a smile, he put a finger to his lips.
"Shhh." He whispered, raising a hand and beckoning her forward. He bent down and disappeared into the think foliage covering the ground. She waded through the grass, her eyes searching.
"Pan?" She said with confusion. An arm pulled her down, and she landed on her hands and knees. Pan's face was inches from hers as he smiled, a real smile. No hint of smugness or amusement. He started to crawl through the grass, and Sawyer followed him after leaving her lantern behind. After a while, Pan stopped suddenly. He stared up at a spot in the trees were the leaves parted, showing a patch of sky. The moon was huge, and it cast a pale glow over their faces.
"It's a full moon tonight." Pan whispered. Sawyer looked at him. "Watch." Pan said. A million tiny specks of light emerged from the trees and the grass, followed by the sound of fluttering wings and a soft twinkling sound. Trails of glowing dust followed them, and they flew towards the huge tree with twisted roots in the distance. Pan took Sawyer's hand and led her towards it. Light poured out of the openings in the gnarled roots, and they both peered through them into the inside of the tree. The fairies were dressed in silks and sparkling gowns, leaves and flowers woven into their hair. They were dancing to the soft melodious music that was radiating from the tree, waltzing gracefully through the air. Sawyer watched in awe, her face lit up by the gleam of pixie dust. Pan watched her with a smile tugging at his lips. The fairies were noticing their presence now, flying over to the opening in the tree trunk. Pan whispered to them, his voice too soft for her to hear. Of course he knew the fairies, Sawyer thought. They were crowding around her, inspecting her face with their playful, curious gazes. They tugged at her clothes and pulled gently at her dark hair. Pan watched as he whispered to them. He knew the fairies were curious about her, she was one of the first human girls they'd ever seen. Pan gave the fairies a look and smirked. They flew above their heads and sprinkled the glowing dust on them. Pan took Sawyer's hand again, and lifted her to her feet. The fairies circled around them, and Pan took both of her hands in his. They stared at each other for a moment, and after a while Pan smirked. He raised an eyebrow, then looked down at the ground. When Sawyer looked down in confusion, she found that she wasn't looking at the forest floor. She was looking at her feet, which were disconnected from the ground. She gasped, and tightened her grip on his hands. He chuckled as they floated higher. The fairies were all coming out of the tree now, flying around the two of them. The music started again, and the fairies started to waltz in pairs. A few of them flew up to Sawyer and Pan, looking at them expectantly.
"Why are they looking at us like that?" Sawyer whispered.
"I think they want us to dance." Pan said.
"I don't really...dance." Sawyer said, looking around at the dancing couples. Pan chuckled.
"Trust me, you can dance." He said, remembering all the times he'd seen her at parties, encompassing the bonfire. Pan held up his hand, and Sawyer stared at it like it was the invitation to her execution.
