"Heather!!! Stop using your laptop and get down here!!!" Mom called downstairs.

I sighed and begrudgingly closed the laptop and grabbed my duffel bag, backpack, sling bag and my lucky charm. My lucky charm was my ruby amulet. The first time I wore it was my first karate competition. I won surprisingly. Then, I never left with out it.

"Why a hiking trip... I love adventures but I don't want one right now..." I grumbled and thought about the karate and fencing luck.

Looking back I stared at the medals and the trophies I won from before. I could use a bit of a break from training and have a wildlife adventure...

I smiled to self.

I am an idiot.

I laughed and went out of my room and locked the door. I went down the stairs to my family who was already outside bringing our stuff into the car.

Dad loaded my bags into the back of the car and made me sit next to my sister who was five years younger than me.

She is five years younger but taller than me. I hated that fact. She was tallest in her class. I wasn't the shortest but I wasn't so tall either.

But, she never learned karate and fencing like me. I had to beg to be part of those classes. But when she asked mom and dad to enter the school beauty pageant and her cooking and yoga classes they immediately signed er' up!

Unbelievable right? They treat me as the younger one. Sad life.

The car door shuts rang in my ears accompanied by the sound of a whirring engine. We were off to our hiking trip.

"Hey, Hailey." I tapped on my sister's shoulder.

"Yeah Heat?" I hate it when she calls me that. I don't like it when my family uses that nickname. I prefer my friends using it.

"Can you stand the fact that we have to go through itchy grass and mosquitoes?" I asked her.

"I'm sure I'll be fine. I have long pants, a coat or two and mosquito repellent lotion. I can lend you some if you'd like." She said.

"That's sweet of you darling." Mom said checking on us than looking back at her map.

I detest the fact that they think she is an angel. Always so... Exuberant... She may look like a sugar mouse but she is a rat! Acting like Mrs. Perfect.

I put on my headphones and blasted a Taylor Swift song. Out of the woods. That might be what I want... Out... Or just have a little hike.

"Hailey... What about bears?" I asked her.

"Maybe not... I dunno." She was staring out of the window.

"What about snakes?"

"Stay still. Wear thick clothing. Don't move at all. If bitten check bite mark to know if poisonous. There is a way to tell poisonous from nonpoisonous." She was still staring out the window.

"Someone's been studying up." I told her crossly.

"Yeah I have."

Show-off!!! I hate her so much...

I grit my teeth and go back to my phone. I check for texts. None. Motifs. None. I just decide to read an e-book.

"Heather, no gadgets in the car. You'll hurt your eyes and wear glasses." Dad said.

The ride was long and boring. I fell asleep in the middle of the ride headphones still on. Surely I was snoring.

The car stopped I expected we were there. NOT! We took a pit stop at the gasoline station and then at McDonald's for take out breakfast. I was starving!
