Judas le Carrot

I have been tagged by the lovely @rosaimee to write something on a biblical character in the period approaching Easter.

As many of you will know, I am not an avid supporter of organized religion. To my mind, mankind, of all faiths, have distorted the teachings of religion for their own perverted ends.

What has happened to the tenets of love, compassion, tolerance, and understanding? They are overshadowed by the desires of the powerful.

So, here goes:

Many hundreds of years ago,

In the peace of Gethsemane,

Judas,

Disciple, Acolyte,

Betrayed his master,

Faster than they could mint

The silver for his reward,

To burn a hole in his soul.

As the centuries have passed,

Equally as quickly,

What has mankind learned?

Popes have murdered,

Fornicated and poisoned.

Anglican Bishops

Have abused the young in their

Care.

The words of Allah

Have been twisted.

And those who resisted

Have been slaughtered,

No quarter given,

Corpses unshriven,

All for the views

Of the tormented few.

In boardrooms

Throughout

The world,

Listen quietly,

You will hear the sound

Of knives piercing backs,

As disciples imitate

Mark Anthony.

In the halls of political power,

Acolytes shower

Their masters with praise,

While silently plotting

Their overthrow.

And Donald the Trump

A hairdressing Chump,

Tries to avoid snakes on the ladder.

Judas le Carrot, was only one of many.
