My alarm blared and I quickly shut it off. Ben was already out of bed and picking out his outfit for the day in green silk pyjamas. I glanced down at my Star Wars pyjamas pants and my lack of a shirt and sighed.
"Good morning," Ben said.
"The same to you," I answered with a croaky voice. I stood up and attempted to touch my toes but failed and only swiped at my ankles. I stretched upwards, then to both sides.
9:50, the time read.
"Shit, I need to get going," I muttered. I looked at my closet of black clothes, but decided against those options. I spotted a striped jumper with multiple colours circling it and a base colour of red. I pulled it on after spraying deodorant on. On the bottom I pulled my usual of black jeans on and mismatched socks. I finished the outfit with a light brown beanie.
"Hey Dan," I said when I was done getting ready and at his door. I knocked politely.
Kyle answered. "Hi Phil."
"Is Dan here?" I asked.
"No he's taking a shower in the public toilets in," Kyle pointed to my right. "that direction."
"Thanks mate," I quickly scurried down the hall and went into the bathroom. I peed while waiting for Dan and returned out of the bathroom so he wouldn't think I'm a freak.
I pretended I was walking away from the bathroom when Dan opened the door to exit.
"Hey Phil!" He called out and I turned trying to look surprised. "Wait up." He was fully dressed but just had to put his towel and pyjamas away.
"Hey," I said. I looked at his curly head. "Hobbit hair," I smirked.
"Oh shit," Dan covered his head with his hands. "I forgot to straighten it. Give me time now?"
"Nope!" He walked into his room about to grab the straighteners but I pulled him by the hand into the corridor.
"Hey!" He giggled. I touched his curly mane.
"You look like a bear," I told him.
"Yeah, my mum calls me Bear, actually," He shrugged.
"And so will I," I said sneakily. "Bear."
"No stop!" He laughed. "I don't have anything to call you, darn it."
"My, uh, mum calls me sexy lion." I joked. He pushed me to the side.
"Stop it. I'm not calling you sexy lion."
"Aww," I said trying to sound sad.
We talked all the way to the coffee shop which was conveniently close to campus.
"Rosy's Coffee," Dan smiled. "Cute name."
"Yeah, I had some friends live in Manchester so we'd visit a lot and go to this coffee shop. They have the absolute best mochas in the world. True fact."
"Well I guess I'll have to try it then," We walked in and a woman with pink lipstick and lightly applied pink eyeshadow.
"Hello I'm Rosy and welcome to Rosy's Coffee," A thick Irish accent was strung in her words. "You two can find a seat wherever you can."
"Thanks Rosy," I said and when Dan headed for a seat she pulled me back and whispered something in my ear.
"Nice one you got there," I pushed her away jokingly but winked and strutted to the seat Dan picked out.
"So what are you gonna get?" I asked.
"A mocha, of course," He rocked back slightly in his chair. I reached for him as it looked like he was gonna fall.
"Dan! Be careful please."
"Aw Phil, you're worried about me. That's so sweet," Dan studied me with a hint of a smile.
"What do you guys want?" An American man came to our table with brown hair sticking up in a fashionable way, a polo shirt and khakis. He was very attractive and I think I'd be into him if I wasn't so into they guy right across from me, Dan.
"A mocha please," Dan shot me a smile. "I've been told that they're the best in the world."
"Oh it's true, they're delicious," The waiter told him.
"I'll also have a mocha, thank you," I collected our menus and hand them to him. "Tom," I looked at his name tag. He smiled and left with the menus.
"So," I said and looked at Dan.
"So," He copied me. "What kind of music do you listen to?"
"I like Muse, My Chemical Romance, and Panic! At The Disco. You?"
"Same! What's your favorite... Panic! song?"
"Definitely Nine In the Afternoon. What about you?" It was just then that I looked at his clothes. A v-neck brown sweater over a white button up.
"Pas De Cheval, I think. I just have too many favorites," Dan laughed. Tom came to our table serving our mochas and we thanked him quickly.
"Do you have any siblings?" I asked.
"Yeah, I have a younger brother," Dan made a face that showed he didn't like talking about him much. "But he hates me for no reason. We have never really gotten along. He's always despised my presence. His name is Adrian, and my parents haven't even tried to make us get along."
"Aw I'm sorry," I said sympathetically. "I have a brother named Martyn. We've always been pretty good friends, except when he has a girlfriend. He totally ignores me, like now. But he's getting better."
"That's good. You're so lucky," Dan looked out the window to our right and watched people hurry by to who knows where.
"Want to play a game?" I asked.
"Sure," Dan shrugged.
"Okay, here's how you play. You see one person walking or running or whatever, and you make up their name, backstory, where they're going and why. It can be quite fun."
"Sounds fun. Can I start?" I nodded. He pointed to a lady with a large fur coat, chihuahua stuffed in her purse, red hair curled above her head, and cat eye sunglasses. "I think her name is Loretta Wilson, and she's from Russia. Her dog's name is Squishypoo and he bites anyone that isn't Loretta. She's going one of her friends party to make them jealous of everything she has and how rich she is." Loretta left our view and we moved on.
"That guy," I pointed to a man with hair only on the sides of his head, a big pot belly, overalls over a red t-shirt, and high rubber boots to his knees. "That is Carl Herrman. He's actually Britney Spears in disguise. She wants to see if anyone will notice that it's actually her. She's going to a hotel where she is going to sing Toxic while in that disguise and then reveal herself so people will feel bad that they didn't know it was her, or that's what she wants."
"Britney Spears in disguise? Really Phil?" Dan questioned with a chuckle.
"Yeah," I look back at him when Carl (Britney Spears) walked out of view. "Why not?"
"Oh my god," Dan broke out laughing. I smiled, happy that I made him laugh. He was really helping me come out of my shell. I laughed with him. He made me so happy.
